“What does it take to create a dance floor where everyone feels they belong?”
For Nicole Vezenegho, it starts with creating opportunities for people to participate, connect, and express themselves through movement. A dancer since age five, Nicole has trained and performed in Latin and aerial dance nationally and internationally and previously founded an Atlanta nonprofit arts center focused on expanding access to aerial dance.
Today, as a We Can Dance board member and dance instructor, Nicole brings that experience directly to the dance floor. She has taught inclusive Kizomba classes bringing blind, visually impaired, and sighted dancers together, helping create an environment where everyone has the opportunity to learn, connect, and belong.
At Dance in the Dark™: Groove to Give Festival, that same spirit of inclusion becomes part of the experience. A dance floor where everyone belongs doesn't happen by accident. It is created with intention.
Join Nicole and the We Can Dance community on Saturday, November 14, 2026, in Atlanta.

Close your eyes. Could you still connect with another person through dance?
Dance in the Dark: Groove to Give Festival | Connection Beyond Sight
Connection doesn't begin with what we see. It can begin with a hand, a rhythm, a shared movement, or the trust between two people on a dance floor.
Connection Beyond Sight is about discovering how movement, trust, and human connection can be experienced beyond what we see.
At Dance in the Dark, blind, visually impaired, and sighted people will come together for dance workshops and social dancing. During the dance workshops, sighted and visually impaired participants with light perception, will have the opportunity to dance while wearing blindfolds, encouraging them to rely less on visual information and pay greater attention to rhythm, touch, communication, trust, and connection with their partners.
The blindfold experience is not intended to simulate blindness. Instead, it offers another way to experience dance and explore how we communicate and connect beyond sight.
We believe accessibility creates new ways for people to connect, communicate, and experience dance together. When we design dance so that more people can participate, we don't just remove barriers, we create new possibilities for connection.

What happens when one person’s challenge becomes an opportunity for others?

Before becoming blind in 2018, Dr. Samuel Vezenegho (affectionately known as Samy Vez) was a scientist, Kizomba event host and dance instructor for more than 10 years. He also placed second in Urban Kiz at the 2017 North American Kizomba Olympiade.

Blindness didn’t end Samy’s journey, it inspired him to create We Can Dance, where blind, visually impaired and sighted people can experience dance, connection and belonging together.

On November 14, 2026, that vision comes to life at Dance in the Dark: Groove to Give Festival, a day of inclusive dance workshops, connection and social dancing.
