Hawksbill is a special place to me. It represents some of the best stone in NC, and the location is purely magic. Sitting high up on the ridge in Linville Gorge, its shady aspect also often gets a nice breeze coming up from the gorge, making it a pretty good warmer weather spot. Although prime sending conditions are fall/spring, summer can host many great days climbing fun moderates!

Adventure is a driving force in my life! Everytime I have the opportunity to get out and climb with the Waypoint crew I’m reminded of how important adventure is. Adventure shows us what we are capable of and how resilient we are. It teaches us how to persevere, work hard and problem solve. Most importantly, adventure is fun!
Waypoint Adventure takes it to the next level by creating space for everyone who has interest in having their own adventure! As a guide, this is what it’s all about! Creating space and opportunity for folks from all walks of life to experience adventure and these special places that we love!
I say this often, but I truly am inspired by everyone who shows up and tries hard on a Waypoint climbing day. The grit and determination is motivating! I can’t wait for the next day I get to share with these rad folks!
Here’s some images from a recent day out at Chimney Rock State Park.

Spent a few days in the High Country this week. Snuck in a few days at Ship Rock in between closures. Got to meet some great folks, climb some great pitches, and didn’t even get wet!
Summer’s best!

Something I love about guiding is getting to see folks try new things, face fear, and overcome that fear all in a matter of a few hours. It’s pretty rewarding to say the least.
Sydney, on her first time climbing outdoors learned to lead belay, tie-in, belay commands, how to clean trad gear, how to move on rock (we climbed 5 pitches), and she climbed a multipitch, amongst many other things. Seeing her move through stages of fear and overcome it is so fun for me.
I’m thankful for these days out on rock with good folks!
Table Rock was the perfect venue and Linville Gorge never disappoints!

The Breaks is one of my favorite places to vacation. It’s such a beautiful place, the climbing is quality, the approaches are short, and camping/logging is very reasonable.
I’m also happy to have the privilege of offering guided climbing in the park. I recommend spending two days climbing here to maximize your visit, as the park is secluded/ tucked deep in Appalachia, making for a great immersive climbing experience where being present in the park is the priority.
Spring/ Fall is the prime season, as most locations are, but there is shade to be found in the summer season as well.
There are also great rest-day activities, such as the Elk Tour, endless hiking trails, and even the option to cool off down in the river!
If you have any questions about climbing at The Breaks, don’t hesitate to reach out. I’m looking forward to a great time showing you around one of my favorite places!

Maybe one of the last sendy days of the season for Rumbling Bald! I was glad to spend this cool spring day with these fellas!
Now that temperatures are starting to stay consistently warmer it’s time to start looking to higher ground and shade.
Some of my favorite shade options include:
Morning sessions at Hawksbill and Ship Rock are the best of the best!
Early morning at Shortoff (beat the sun for the hike).
Early morning at the South Side of Looking Glass.
Morning at the Nose of Looking Glass.
Late morning to afternoon at the North Side of Looking Glass.
Hope to climb with you soon!
