This summer marks 20 years of on field speed and agility camps for XIP. It also marked the first year of these sessions being offered at our new location, where we are currently building the next chapter for XIP. A "campus" that will have it all and allow us to expand our athletic development operations in the years to come.

The first on field camps began in 2006, years prior to XIP opening, with a handfull of driven local middle school athletes who just wanted to get faster. If memory serves me our shirts had a "speed kills" printed on them somewhere. Not much has changed.

Here's a few pics from a training session on the lower field of the new lot. I'm sure many of the XIP alumni are happy to see there's a good hill for our resisted sprint work. Wouldn't have it any other way💪🔥

If you're an XIP alum comment below with what year you attended your first XIP camp.

Here’s a drill I love for training acceleration and deceleration in a more open and reactive agility training environment. If you look down from above it looks kinda like a school of minnows in the water.

One athlete leads and controls the acceleration and deceleration intervals as well as the direction of travel while the other athletes respond to their change in speed and change of direction. You can’t pass the leader but you are trying to stay as close as possible.

I incorporated this after more linear and closed accel/decel drills to help athletes connect the dots a bit while also improving intent and some fun.

It’s also a great way to implement a conditioning stimulus that is more reactive and potentially transferrable to intermittent COD sport(s). For context, these are all football 🏈 athletes of varying positions and ages.
