Resisting change doesn’t stop it. It just guarantees you’ll experience it as violence instead of movement.

Most people meet change the way a swimmer meets a current they refuse to accept, thrashing against a force that was never going to hold still for anyone’s comfort. The fighting doesn’t slow the change down. It only exhausts the person fighting, spending everything they have on a battle that was lost before it started, because change was never actually optional in the first place. What’s optional is whether you experience it as drowning or as swimming.

Watts is pointing at something more specific than simply accepting the inevitable. Dancing with change requires actual participation, not passive tolerance. A person who merely endures change is still resisting it internally, waiting for it to end so ordinary life can resume. A person who joins the movement stops waiting entirely, finds the rhythm inside the disruption itself, and discovers that change handled this way stops feeling like something happening to them and starts feeling like something they’re doing.

This distinction explains why some people seem to move through upheaval with strange lightness while others are crushed by circumstances that were, on paper, less severe. The difference was rarely the size of the change. It was whether the person had found the rhythm inside it or spent all their energy trying to stand perfectly still in water that was never going to stop moving.

You cannot out-argue a river. You can only learn to swim with what’s already carrying you.

Where in your life have you been fighting a current that might actually be worth learning to move with instead?

You can run and try to stop CHANGE…

Yet that won’t help you learn to live and deal with it.

Don’t run, deal and learn, then put those lessons back into your own life

Devotion and progress cannot be faked. They are earned through consistency, discipline, and the work you put in when no one is watching. If you truly love what you do, stay committed to it. Over time, your effort, growth, and dedication will speak for themselves.

There will be people from your past who say, “You’ve changed.” Isn’t that the point? Growth means you’re no longer the person you used to be.
