I want to tell you why I'm holding the Sacred Bond Mother's Day Retreat.

Mother's Day is complicated. It's a beautiful day for some women and a brutal one for others - and often it's both at the same time, in the same family, at the same brunch table.
I know because I've lived the harder side of it.

I struggled with infertility. The years I spent wanting to be a mother and not becoming one reshaped me in ways I'm still understanding. Mother's Day is still hard for me.

What I am continuing to learn is that mothering is so much bigger than the narrow definition we're handed. The women who mothered me through that time weren't all my mom. They were aunties, friends, mentors, the women in my circle who showed up. And the love I had to give - the love that didn't get to go where I thought it would, found other places to land.

So when we designed Sacred Bond, we designed it wide on purpose.

It's for the mom and daughter who've been close since day one. The step-mom who showed up and stayed. The mother-in-law who became a second mom. The grandmother raising her granddaughter. The auntie who's been the woman in her life. The bonus daughter, the chosen daughter, the daughter of the heart. The friend who mothered you when you needed it most. The mother and daughter finding their way back to each other after a hard season.

If there's a woman in your life who has mothered you, or a younger woman you have mothered, by blood or by love - this day is for the two of you.

And if Mother's Day is hard for you this year - whatever the reason - I see you. You don't have to come to this retreat to be seen. But the door is open, in every sense of that word.
