Greetings, BMB members and friends!
It's hard to believe but summer is just about over. We hope everyone has had a great season of outdoor archery... We're blessed with a climate that allows outdoor shooting year-round, so don't let cooler temperatures and shorter days keep you away from the range, especially those of you gearing and tuning up for hunting season.
Thank you to everyone putting in some time and effort to improve things at the range! Seeing that they were falling apart, Dave Petty refurbished a couple of the equipment setup tables next to targets 8 and 9. Separately, at the last Work Party, we discovered that some anonymous heroes had fully cleared the overgrowth on the Upper 14 field course trail. Even if you can't make it out to our monthly range maintenance Work Parties, there are still plenty of ways to help out, as we've always got things that need fixing or building. Please reach out to us if you'd like to help!
Thank you also to everyone who helped out at this past month's Santa Clara County Parks Taste of Archery event. Thanks to this outreach event, we've got some new shooters who've caught the archery bug!
Outdoor tournament season is winding down, but there's still plenty to do this month:
* Our next monthly range maintenance Work Party takes place this Saturday, September 5.
+ No experience needed; members and non-members alike are welcome!
+ Work starts around 8 AM (latecomers, come on out!); come find us in the clubhouse/picnic area by the main parking. If arriving late, just look around and any of the volunteers on site can point you in the right direction.
+ Dress as if for yard work, and bring work/gardening gloves if you have them.
+ As a thank-you to our volunteers, we'll be serving lunch and refreshments when work activities wrap up.
+ All parts of the range will be closed to shooting, and will reopen no earlier than 2 PM.
+ Looking to log volunteer hours? Sign up via the Santa Clara County volunteering site (https://scc.samaritan.com/custom/502/opp_details/4924).
* There's no Club Shoot this month, as the weekend will be preempted by the CBH State 900 tournament.
* Speaking of which, registration is still open for the CBH/SAA State 900 tournament, happening at various locations and on various dates, including at BMB on September 12-13.
+ Online registration for the BMB-hosted shoots can be found here (https://www.runreg.com/cbh-state-target-championship-black-mountain-bowmen-91226) (Saturday) and here (https://www.runreg.com/cbh-state-target-championship-black-mountain-bowmen-91326-2026) (Sunday).
+ You can register for either day, or both (or more!) as long as you only shoot once per NFAA equipment class.
+ Find other venues and opportunities to participate over on the CBH website (https://cbhsaa.org/).
+ NFAA membership is required.
* BMB is hosting a Historical Archery Team Competition on Saturday, September 26.
+ This takes place 8:30 AM to 12 PM in the upper parking lot and at some Upper 14 targets and is limited to off-the-hand traditional-style bows (longbows, traditional asiatic bows, etc.). Check out the event flyer (https://blackmountainbowmen.net/wp-content/uploads/2026/09/KTA-Comp-2.jpg) for more information.
+ The upper parking lot and Upper 14 field course will be closed for the duration of this event.
* Check out the Parks Assist app (available for Android (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nexgenam.sccp&pcampaignid=web_share) and iPhone (https://apps.apple.com/us/app/parks-assist/id6733226407)) for reporting and tracking park-related issues and maintenance.
+ Use it to report issues with "parks"-type facilities, such as trails, picnic tables, toilets, and other non-archery items.
+ For archery-related issues (targets, range, etc.), contact us.
Looking for other archery events? Here's what's going on at other nearby ranges in the next few weeks:
* Bowhunters Unlimited's 2026 Primitive Shoot takes place on Saturday, October 3. More details are coming soon; check the BHU events page (https://www.bhuarchers.org/events/) to learn more.

We're still looking for some volunteers to help out with this weekend's Santa Clara County Parks "Taste of Archery" (https://santaclaracountyparks.ticketspice.com/taste-of-archery) introductory archery event, happening at BMB this Saturday morning (August 15). At this outreach event we'll be introducing members of the public to archery. This is a great opportunity to share our enthusiasm for archery and get new people into the sport.
No specific qualifications are required, other than being comfortable with demonstrating and teaching basic archery concepts to adults and children. If you're available to help out with the 8am and/or 10am sessions, please contact us ([email protected]).

Ilina Upadhyaya, Ashwath Manu, and Aania Powar took top honors, winning first place in Barebow U13 Women, Barebow U13 Men, and Barebow U15 Women divisions (respectively). JoJo Rosal and Brandon Nishihara also put in strong showings in their respective divisions. Huge congratulations to them and to all the BMB archers representing our little club on the national stage!

Greetings BMB'ers!
Summer is officially here and BMB archers have been distinguishing themselves at tournaments near and far. Well done to everyone who shot at the NFAA Field Sectionals, CBH State Field Championship, USAT SoCal Showdown and California State Outdoor tournaments this past month!
June also saw the final events in our 2026 Wednesday Night 3D League series. Thank you to everyone who participated, and especially to everyone who volunteered to make the League happen this year!
Thanks also to everyone who came out BMB's inaugural Santa Teresa Cup tournament! The event ran smoothly, we had great attendance with our tournament range and targets at near full capacity, and the weather conditions, while warm, weren't overly challenging. We're already looking forward to next year's event and thinking about how we might make things even better, so if you've got any ideas or suggestions, we'd be happy for your feedback.
There's still lots more to do archery-wise this summer; here's what's going on at BMB in July:
* The monthly range maintenance Work Party takes place as scheduled (first Saturday of the month) on Saturday, July 4. We realize many of you may have plans for this holiday weekend, but we'd really appreciate anyone who can come out to help us with all the various tasks to maintain and improve the range that we all enjoy.
+ No experience needed; members and non-members alike are welcome!
+ Work starts around 8 AM; come find us in the clubhouse/picnic area by the main parking.
The July Club Shoot will take place on Sunday, July 12. The Club Shoot format for the outdoor season is the NFAA 900 round:
+ Archers will shoot three rounds, each of five 6-arrow ends, at 60, 50, and 40 yards, on 122-cm 10-ring targets (shorter distances for youth and cub archers).
+ There will be two ends of practice prior to the first round (distance), and 10-15 minute breaks between each round.
+ Archers will be grouped and assigned to targets by division according to NFAA rules.
+ New to tournament archery? Check out this great introductory video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uJMb3bSA_f4) from the fine folks over at Pasadena Roving Archers.
+ The shoot is free for current BMB members, $10 for guests.
+ Walk-ons are welcome, though we do appreciate those who help us plan ahead by preregistering (https://forms.gle/XpGZ3R12298bE5j4A).
+ Setup begins around 8am, and we aim to start shooting around 9am.
* The Wednesday Night 3D League BBQ/Potluck will be held on Saturday, July 11, starting at noon.
+ We'll be presenting awards to this year's League top finishers, raffling off a variety of archery gear, and serving up some tasty grilled fare.
+ Everyone (and their family) who shot or volunteered at a 3D League event is welcome.
+ If you are planning to attend or even just considering it, please RSVP (https://forms.gle/4q8u42KH5kZ8emmH9) so that we can get a picture of how many folks to expect, and plan accordingly.

Looking for more events? Here's a sample of what's going on at other MTBA ranges in the region:
* King's Mountain Archers is hosting their annual Skyline 3D Shoot (https://www.kingsmountainarchers.org/events/skyline-3d-shoot-2026/) on Sunday, July 19.
That's just about it for this first full month of summer. Stay cool and/or hydrated, everyone, and don't skimp on the sunblock!
See you at the range!
