Black Mountain Bowmen June 2026 updates
Greetings BMB archers!
The summer tournament season is in full swing, and it's been great to see BMB members at tournaments both local (like Arrows in the Vineyard) and national (USAT Salt Lake Summit). With all that going on, there's still plenty happening in our little neck of the woods; here's a summary of what we've got going on at BMB this month:
* Our monthly range maintenance Work Party happens this coming Saturday, June 6. We had a pretty light turnout at the last one, and were unable to make any headway on clearing the Upper 14 field course trails. With the occasional rain that we've been getting, the overgrowth on the Upper 14 field course has gotten way ahead of us, making conditions downright hazardous due to the risk of ticks and rattlesnakes. Please come out and help us take back the Upper 14!
+ Work starts around 8 AM; come find us in the clubhouse/picnic area by the main parking. If arriving late, just look around and any of the volunteers on site can point you in the right direction.
+ Dress as if for yard work, and bring work/gardening gloves if you have them.
+ As a thank-you to our volunteers, we'll be serving lunch and refreshments when work activities wrap up.
+ All parts of the range will be closed to shooting, and will reopen no earlier than 2 PM.
+ Looking to log volunteer hours? Sign up via the Santa Clara County volunteering site (https://scc.samaritan.com/custom/502/opp_details/4924).
* There's no Club Shoot this month, as we'll be hosting the Santa Teresa Cup tournament that weekend.
* BMB's inaugural "USAT-style" tournament, the Santa Teresa Cup, is taking place on Saturday and Sunday, June 13-14.
+ Saturday will feature a 720 (12 ends of 6 arrows) qualifying round.
+ Sunday will feature 1-on-1 match play (like elimination rounds, but we're doing Swiss-system brackets to ensure everyone gets to shoot multiple matches).
+ USA Archery age and equipment divisions and standard target sizes and distances.
+ Entry fee: $30 for current BMB members, $40 for non-members.
+ For more details, see our announcement (https://blackmountainbowmen.net/2026/05/13/announcing-the-2026-santa-teresa-cup-tournament-june-13-14-2026/) or go straight to the registration form (https://forms.gle/p8Rvsv133P1jJi5L6).
+ Registration closes at the end of Sunday, June 7; no walk-ons will be accepted!
* Our Wednesday Night 3D League concludes this week, with final event on Wednesday, June 3.
+ Cost: $10 for adults (16+), $5 for youth (11-15), free for cub archers (6-10).
+ Shooting times begin at 4pm and run through 6pm.
+ Learn more at our 3D League web page (https://blackmountainbowmen.net/3d-league/).
* The Wednesday Night 3D League BBQ/Potluck will be held on Saturday, July 11, starting at noon.
+ We'll be presenting awards to this year's League winners, raffling off a variety of archery gear, and serving up some tasty eats.
+ Everyone (and their family) who shot or volunteered at a 3D League event is welcome.
Here are just a few of the many other events happening elsewhere at other MTBA ranges:
* Want more 3D? Santa Cruz Archers is holding their annual 3D in the Redwoods (https://santacruzarchers.com/Fliers/SCA_3D_REDWOODS_JUNE_2026_flier%20v2.pdf) event on Sunday, June 7.
* Registration is still open for the 2026 NFAA Southwest Sectionals (https://www.kingsmountainarchers.org/events/club-shoot-6/) field archery tournament at King's Mountain Archers, Sunday, June 14.
* King's Mountain Archers is also hosting the CBH State Field Championship (https://www.kingsmountainarchers.org/events/cbh-state-field-championship-2/) the following weekend on Saturday, June 20.
That's about it for this month. Good luck to all of you competing at any of the above tournaments, as well as USAT SoCal Showdown and the California State Outdoors Championship later this month! Keep cool and keep shooting...
See you at the range!

One week left to register for the Santa Teresa Cup!
Looking to practice your skills before the big SoCal Showdown tournament in San Diego? Or just looking to try out USAT-style competition? Then come on out to Black Mountain Bowmen's inaugural Santa Teresa Cup tournament, June 13-14.
Registration closes at the end of day, Sunday June 7, so get your entry in! (Thank you to everyone who's signed up so far!)

Schedule update: we will likely (barring a huge surge in signups) move to a single morning session to allow archers to shoot during the cooler morning hours.
05/14/2026
Following the unprecedented popularity of last year's "USAT-style club shoot", Black Mountain Bowmen is hosting our inaugural Santa Teresa Cup tournament, as a warm-up for local archers headed to USAT #3: SoCal Showdown in San Diego the following weekend. The tournament will feature a 720 qualifying/ranking round on the first day, followed by match play on the second day. Match play will run by a "Swiss system" tournament, rather than eliminations, so that participants can more fully experience the challenge and excitement of archery match play.
Spaces are limited, and registration closes on June 7!

Get your BMB jersey! Orders close soon!
If you're interested in getting your very own Black Mountain Bowmen archery jersey to represent your club at this year's tournaments, now is your chance to order one! We're gathering up orders for a group order with our jersey vendor GNB (formerly YoungSpeeds) and looking to send out the order by around May 11, so that jerseys will arrive in time for the big June tournaments in San Diego and Simi Valley.
To place your order, go over to the BMB jersey ordering page at GNB (https://gnbsporting.com/products/black-mountain-bowmen-custom-archery-jerseys-2025) and fill out the order form. The jerseys will be produced and delivered to BMB and we'll contact you to ensure you receive your jersey promptly.
Light color jerseys available!
To keep extra cool at those hot summer shoots, we've designed a light-colored jersey.
If you'd like a light-colored jersey, specify "White/Silver colors" in the "Note" field of your order, and also email us to let us know that you've ordered a light jersey so that we can verify the order with the vendor.
Orders close May 11!
We intend to send out the order for production on May 11, so make sure you place your order before then. Orders placed after the deadline may not get fulfilled until the next batch goes out.

Hello BMB'ers!
We hope everyone's been having a good spring and early outdoor archery season so far. Shout out to all the BMB archers who've been representing the club at tournaments near and far: Break The Barriers, USAT Gator Cup, Bay Area Senior Games, and plenty of others. A big cheer also to our local collegiate athletes, the San Jose State University Club archers, who recently won medals at this year's USA Archery Collegiate Target Regionals (West Region)! Great shooting, everyone!
The weather may not feel like it, but it's almost May already... Here are your BMB updates for the coming month:
* Rescheduled! Due to schedule conflicts, we've moved our monthly range maintenance Work Party to Saturday, May 9. We really could use your help to maintain and improve the range: clearing brush, replacing target bales, making target faces, and various other items. No experience needed and members and non-members alike are welcome!
+ Work starts around 8 AM; come find us in the clubhouse/picnic area by the main parking. If arriving late, just look around and any of the volunteers on site can point you in the right direction.
- Dress as if for yard work, and bring work/gardening gloves if you have them.
* Cardboard needed! We need cardboard panels and boxes as backing for the field target faces we deploy throughout the range. If you've got a large cardboard box you're getting rid of, or can harvest cardboard being thrown out by various businesses, please leave it behind the "serving counter" facing the picnic area (between the parking lot and the practice range). Thanks to everyone who's donated so far!
* The May Club Shoot will take place on Sunday, May 10. The Club Shoot format for the outdoor season is the NFAA 900 round:
+ Archers will shoot three rounds, each of five 6-arrow ends, at 60, 50, and 40 yards, on 122-cm 10-ring targets (shorter distances for youth and cub archers).
+ There will be two ends of practice prior to the first round (distance), and 10-15 minute breaks between each round.
+ Archers will be grouped and assigned to targets by division according to NFAA rules.
+ New to tournament archery? Check out this great introductory video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uJMb3bSA_f4) from our friends at Pasadena Roving Archers.
+ As usual, the shoot is free for current BMB members, $10 for guests.
+ Walk-ons are welcome, though we do appreciate those who help us plan ahead by preregistering (https://forms.gle/XpGZ3R12298bE5j4A).
+ Setup begins around 8am, and we aim to start shooting around 9am.
* Our Wednesday Night 3D League is halfway through its season, but there's still plenty of opportunities to come and join in on the foam-hunting fun!
+ Cost: $10 for adults (16+), $5 for youth (11-15), free for cub archers (6-10).
+ Shooting times begin at 4pm and run through 6pm.
+ Learn more at our 3D League web page (https://blackmountainbowmen.net/3d-league/).
* Following up on the unexpectedly popular USAT-style club shoot we held last year, we're planning to hold a full USAT-style tournament on the weekend of June 13-14, as a warm-up for archers headed to the USAT #3: SoCal Showdown tournament in San Diego (though of course all are welcome). We will announce more details shortly, but tentatively:
+ 720 qualifying round on Saturday.
+ Elimination matches on Sunday.
Here are just a few of the many other events happening elsewhere at other MTBA ranges:
* Bowhunters Unlimited is holding their annual Al Harford/Fred Bear Legacy Shoot (https://www.facebook.com/groups/bhuarchers/permalink/27032116806413508/) 3D event on Saturday, May 9.
* The 2026 MTBA Regional Field tournament will be held at King's Mountain Archers, Saturday, May 16. Get more information and pre-register here (https://forms.gle/cAm8JF6dBYJMDeEy6). Membership in one of the MTBA clubs is required, so if you haven't already, remember to renew your BMB membership (https://blackmountainbowmen.net/membership/) for this year.
* Registration is still open for the 2026 NFAA Southwest Sectionals (https://www.kingsmountainarchers.org/events/club-shoot-6/) field archery tournament at King's Mountain Archers, June 14.
One more thing: we're seeing that the ticks are numerous and voracious this year, due to the recent rain and consequent vegetation growth. If you venture into tall brush or grass, be sure to check yourself (and any other people or pets with you) for these critters, as their bite can transmit some pretty nasty illnesses. (Learn more (https://www.cdc.gov/ticks/prevention/index.html) about how to protect yourself from ticks.)
Stay safe, and happy shooting, everyone! See you at the range!

3D League Round 6 is GO!
A little bit of rain won't keep us down, and with clearing skies forecast for this afternoon and evening, this week's installment of our BMB 2026 Wednesday 3D League (https://blackmountainbowmen.net/3d-league/) will proceed as planned. After the scorching weather we experienced early on this season, slightly cool and damp conditions don't seem bad at all!
See you at the range!
11/27/2025
In the spirit of the holiday, we wanted to take the opportunity to express our gratitude to everyone who helped make this a great year for archery:
* First and foremost, to all our members for their support and participation.
* To everyone who came out to our range maintenance work parties.
* To all the folks who helped set up and run our league, club shoot, and tournament events; in particular, Ron for running the 3D League, Dawnel and Tere for their work organizing various tournaments at BMB.
* To our crew of volunteers who work tirelessly to keep the grass mowed and the weeds trimmed: Mark, Harold, Deems.
* To our local archery instructors for helping bring new people into our sport, especially everyone who helped make this year's Taste of Archery event a success.
* To Mark for working with the vendor to get BMB jerseys made; to everyone who wore them and represented BMB at tournaments all over the state and the country.
* To Predators Archery for supporting club events and for keeping us equipped and supplied.
* To all our members who competed in Mission Trails Bowhunter Association tournaments this year and made BMB a close runner-up for this year's MTBA Club of the Year title.
No doubt we've missed some mentions, but know that we notice and appreciate every effort and every contribution from every member of our archery community. Thank you!
With the MTBA indoor tournament in the books, and everyone preoccupied with various winter holidays, we've got a relatively quiet month ahead archery-wise, but there still plenty of opportunities to get involved. Here's what's going on in December:
* Our monthly range maintenance Work Party takes place on Saturday, December 6. Please come out and help take care of the archery range and facilities that we all use.
+ Work starts around 8 AM (late arrivals okay); come find us in the clubhouse/picnic area by the main parking. BMB members and non-members are welcome and appreciated!
+ Dress as if for yard work, and bring work/gardening gloves if you have them.
+ To thank our volunteers, we'll be serving lunch and refreshments when work activities wrap up.
+ All parts of the range will be closed to shooting, and will reopen no earlier than 2 PM.
+ Looking to log volunteer hours? Sign up via the Santa Clara County volunteering site (https://scc.samaritan.com/custom/502/opp_details/4924).
* December's Club Shoot will be held on Sunday, December 14. To help archers practice for upcoming indoor competitions, the format will be an indoor-style double-300:
+ Archers will shoot two rounds, each round 10 ends of 3 arrows, at 20 yards (18m), on individual 40cm targets (60cm for cub archers), with a 15 minute break in between the rounds. Those shooting 40cm targets may choose between a 10-ring target and a 3-spot target. Archers will have 2 ends of practice prior to the official shoot. Target assignments will be posted the morning of the event at the range. Archers will be grouped by division according to NFAA rules.
+ As usual, the shoot is free for current BMB members, $10 for guests.
+ Walk-ons are welcome, though we do appreciate those who help us plan ahead by preregistering (https://forms.gle/txqRKR9Mzheff1p99).
+ Setup begins around 8am, and we aim to start shooting around 9am.
* Registration is open for the California Bowmen Hunters (CBH) 2026 State Indoor Championship tournament, happening at various venues and times throughout the state in January.
+ Go to the CBH calendar page (https://cbhsaa.org/Calendars) and look up your preferred venue and shooting date/time to register.
* BMB archery shooting jerseys ordered in October and November have arrived! If you ordered a jersey, please contact us so that we can make arrangements to get you your jersey.
* Nominations (https://forms.gle/cGNYATjnwJ3hhe359) will shortly close for next year's Black Mountain Bowmen Board of Directors (BoD), after which ballots will be sent out to members:
+ The BoD meets every month and makes decisions about club finances, range operations, events, and other club activities. Check out our meeting minutes (https://blackmountainbowmen.net/minutes/) to get an idea of some of the things we get up to.
+ The only qualifications are BMB membership and a desire to help out, so please consider signing up!
* As always, we're on the lookout for materials to use to build and maintain things around the range. If you have leftover, salvaged, or unused construction materials such as lumber, plywood, metal, and hardware, please get in touch with us (or just drop it off and we'll figure it out)!
+ We also need large clean pieces of cardboard for target faces; feel free to drop those off next to the club trailer or behind the food serving counter in the picnic area.
Happy Thanksgiving everyone. See you at the range!

Congratulations to our record-breaking BMB archers Dominique, Elizaveta, Roman, Boyan, and Aania!
2025 State Record Breakers
After the completion of SoCal Fall Indoor, the State Records of 2025 have been finalized! Congratulations to all the archers in California that went above and beyond in their shooting.
