Conversations on teaching Pilates and life. A supportive community for teachers

This month we’re highlighting one of our favorite progressions: Push Through Prep into the Push Through Roll Back.

🛠️ Gratz Pilates Apparatus of the Month: The Push Through Bar on the Cadillac

The Push Through Bar is one of the best teachers in the Pilates system. As the bar moves, it reveals how the body organizes itself—where movement begins, where connection is maintained, and where control starts to fade.

Why start with the Prep?

✨ It reveals the story. The Prep shows us how the shoulders, spine, pelvis, and feet work together before adding more range.

✨ It exposes the missing link. We can see exactly where mobility, stability, or control is lost, giving us a clear direction for what the client needs.

✨ It builds the pathway. What we learn in the Prep helps create a more organized, connected Push Through Roll Back.

💡 Why we love it

For hypermobile clients, the spring provides boundaries and encourages dynamic stability.

For clients seeking mobility, it offers support and traction, helping them find length without forcing range.

Why Gratz?

The honest tension of the Gratz springs provides incredible feedback. The springs don’t do the work—they help both teacher and client recognize when connection is lost and when it has been restored.

✨ Teachers and practitioners: How do you use Push Through Prep in your studio? We’d love to hear your thoughts below! 👇

✨ July Wrap-Up ✨

Reflecting on all the movement, learning, and incredible moments we’ve shared with this community this month:

☀️ Welcoming Our Summer 2026 Teacher Training Cohort
A huge welcome to our newest teacher trainees! Watching you begin your journey into the Traditional Pilates method has already been so rewarding, and we can’t wait to see what’s ahead.

📺 New YouTube Videos & Gratz Feature
We shared more educational content on YouTube this month and had the privilege of being featured by Gratz as one of their Teacher Training Partners, discussing the Gratz Reformer and pregnancy. We’re incredibly proud to continue sharing authentic Traditional Pilates on the original apparatus.

📚 Always Students
One of our core beliefs is that great teachers never stop learning. This month, we stepped away from teaching to continue our own education, because investing in our learning ultimately helps us better serve our students.

💛 Thank You
Whether you’ve listened to the podcast, watched our YouTube videos, joined us in the studio, commented on a post, or sent us a message—thank you. This community is what makes the Traditional Pilates Movement Collective so special.

🍂 Looking Ahead
August will be all about preparing for our Fall Workshop this September. We have some exciting things in the works, and we can’t wait to share them with you soon!

What was your favorite Pilates moment this month? ✨

🚨 We’re going to say it...

Stop forcing a “neutral spine” and “neutral pelvis.” 👀

In Pilates, these cues are often treated as absolute rules. But every body is different, and it’s not our job to force someone into an arbitrary position.

Instead, our role is to help clients discover the organization that works for their body. 💡 We guide, observe, and teach awareness—not impose alignment.

In this week’s YouTube video, we break down why rigid alignment cues can miss the mark, the biomechanics behind our approach, and how empowering clients leads to better movement. 🧠✨

We LOVE the Wunda Chair!! 💥

What a weekend with our Teacher Training class diving into the Chairs!

There are so many💡lightbulb moments that happen when our students begin working with the Chair and start to see the Pilates system in a whole new way.

And seeing those moments happen is one of our favorite parts of teacher training.

Here’s why teachers choose Traditional Pilates Movement Collective:

✨ Pure Traditional Authenticity — Learn the original, systematic method of Joseph Pilates.

✨ Full Apparatus Mastery — Build confidence across the Mat, Reformer, Cadillac, Wunda Chair, and beyond.

✨ Real Mentorship — Learn in an intimate environment with educators invested in your growth.

✨ Anatomy + Assessment — Understand the why behind the work so you can teach the body in front of you.

The journey starts whenever you’re ready with our pre-enrollment program. 👈

📌FALL/WINTER APPLICATIONS ARE OPEN!

Our cohorts stay small so we can provide individualized attention—which means spots are limited.

✨ Apparatus of the Month: The Gratz Reformer ✨

HEADSTAND FRONT

The exercise that makes people look when they see it in the studio.

And yes—we teach it. 😉

But here’s what we love about Traditional Pilates: we don’t just throw you into the full expression and hope for the best.

We build a path.

Maybe today, your Headstand Front is simply finding the inversion and connecting to the shoulder loading.

Maybe it’s not even pressing the carriage out an inch, but just the idea of being about to push.

Or maybe you’re exploring your full range with control.

All of it counts. ✅

📌The Gratz Reformer gives you incredibly specific feedback through its spring tension and dimensions—and that🔑 feedback can completely change how you understand the movement.

This is why we love returning to the exercises, breaking them down, and seeing what your body is ready to do each day.

Do you know the blocks to build towards this exercise? 👇

✨ “Rome was not built in a day...”

In Return to Life, Joseph Pilates wrote:

“Remember, too, that ‘Rome was not built in a day’ and that PATIENCE and PERSISTENCE are vital qualities in the ultimate successful accomplishment of any worthwhile endeavor.”

Joe reminds us that ✅patience and ✅persistence are essential to accomplishing anything worthwhile.

Those words are the foundation of our teacher training.

As our Summer 2026 class began last weekend, we reminded our students that 👉becoming a great teacher doesn’t happen overnight. It takes time, practice, and a willingness to keep learning.

🔑The best teachers aren’t the ones who know everything—they’re the ones who never stop learning.

✨ Pre-enrollment is now open for our Fall/Winter Comprehensive Teacher Training.

As an NPCP Verified Teacher Training Program, our graduates are eligible to sit for the National Pilates Certification Exam.

📜 Certificate. ✅ Certified. 🏛️ Accreditation.

They’re often used interchangeably—but they don’t mean the same thing.

🎙️ Season 7, Episode 7 of the 2 Pilates Chicks Podcast is out now!

In this episode, we break down the often-confusing world of Pilates credentials and explain what these terms actually mean. 🧩

Whether you’re choosing a teacher training program, advancing your education, or simply trying to navigate the industry, understanding the difference matters.

✨ We’ll cover what to look for, what questions to ask, and a few 🚩 red flags to watch out for.

🎧 This is an episode every Pilates teacher—and aspiring teacher—should hear.

Wherever you get your podcasts!

Tomorrow our Summer 2026 Teacher Training cohort officially begins their journey. ✨

We’ll be diving into all of the mat work!

Here is one of our favorites: Control Balance.

This beautiful shoulder stand is the culmination of everything that comes before it, requiring postural control, balance, coordination, and dynamic stability.

Like every exercise in the Pilates method, you don’t jump straight to Control Balance—you build toward it, one exercise at a time.

To our Summer 2026 trainees: we’ll see you on the mat tomorrow. We can’t wait to begin this journey with you. 🤍

👉Interested in becoming a teacher? Applications are now open for our Winter 2027 Teacher Training. 📌As an NPCP Verified Teacher Training Program, our graduates are eligible to sit for the NPCP certification exam. Link in bio.

🛑 Why We Don’t Prop Scoliosis Clients

When you hear a client has scoliosis is your first instinct to grab a prop?
A wedge, towel, or pad to level out the asymmetry or fill in the concave space?

As teachers, our instinct is often to “fix” or “level out” asymmetry.

But do you know how to help this client without a prop?
Why is that important?

In our latest Teaching Exploration video on YouTube, we discuss why the Traditional Pilates Movement Collective takes a different approach: we don’t prop a client with scoliosis. 😱

🔍 Inside This Exploration:
• The Power of Sensation: How using feedback from the mat and gravity directly helps the client develop proprioception.
• Freedom to Move: How stepping away from strict “propping” gives the client opportunity to explore and adapt to what their unique curvature needs.
• Autonomy in the Studio: How to guide clients so they can discover where and how to safely move their own bodies.

We want to move away from rigid, passive corrections and move toward dynamic, guided, autonomous discovery.
