Nobody told you this. So I am going to.
Tight hips are not a flexibility problem.
They are a nervous system problem.
Here is what actually happens. Every time you felt stressed — every tense meeting, every difficult conversation, every moment your body braced for something hard — your psoas muscle contracted. Your hips tightened. Your nervous system went into protection mode.
And when the stressful moment passed — the hips did not always get the message to let go.
They stayed braced. Ready for the next one.
Which means years of stress, worry, and life — all stored right there in the deepest joint in your body.
Stretching alone will not release that. You can hold pigeon for thirty seconds every morning and still feel the same tightness six months later.
What releases it is time. Stillness. Long holds that give the nervous system enough safety to finally let go.
Thirty seconds is not enough. Three minutes starts to become something.
That is what we do on August 8th.
Not a stretch class. A nervous system reset. Two full hours of deep, guided hip opening with long holds, real stillness, and space for your body to release what it has been protecting for years.

🦴 Fun fact about your hips — and I bet you never knew this.
No other creature on earth has a pelvis and hip joint quite like yours.
Your hips evolved specifically to allow you to walk upright — freeing your hands, expanding your mind, and giving you the ability to stand tall and move forward in a way no other animal on this planet can.
They are not just the body’s second largest joint.
They are the biological foundation of what makes you you.
And yet most of us never give them more than 30 seconds of attention.
That changes on August 8th.
📩 I sent an email about your hips today — if you got it and it spoke to you, drop a 🙋 in the comments below. I want to know how many of you felt it.
If you did NOT get the email — drop your email address in the comments right now and I will add you to the list personally so you never miss another one.
This community deserves to hear this stuff. And I want to make sure it reaches every single one of you. 🙏

Comment Hips - Shakira was right. Your hips don’t lie.
Preview text: They hold more than tension. Here is what your hips have been trying to tell you — and what we are going to do about it.
You know the song.
Hips don’t lie.
Shakira was onto something bigger than she probably knew when she wrote it.
Because here is what the science actually shows — and what thirty years of teaching have confirmed for me personally, in room after room, with student after student.
Your hips do not lie.
They hold the truth about everything you have been through.
The science first — because this is real.
The hips are the body’s largest joint complex. They connect your upper body to your lower body, your spine to your legs, your standing to your moving. Everything passes through the hips.
But here is what most people do not know.
The psoas muscle — the deep hip flexor that runs from your lower spine through your pelvis — is directly connected to your fight-or-flight nervous system. It is the only muscle in the human body that connects the spine to the legs. And it is the first muscle to contract when you experience stress, fear, or trauma.
Every time something difficult happened — every time you braced for impact, every time you held your breath, every time life asked more of you than you felt ready to give — your psoas contracted. Your hips tightened.
And for most of us, they never fully let go.
Years of sitting at desks. Years of stress that never fully resolved. Years of going hard and never giving the body the long, slow, deep release it was asking for.
It all lives in the hips.
The unexplained lower back pain. The tightness that never goes away no matter how much you stretch. The feeling of carrying something heavy even on the days when life is fine.
That is your hips. Holding the story of everything you have been through.
250 years ago a group of people made a decision that had never been made quite like this before.
Not just to fight for independence.
To declare — in writing, to the world — that certain truths are self evident.
That all people are created equal.
That life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness are not privileges to be earned.
They are rights.
It was a radical idea then.
It is still a radical idea now.
The 250 years between that moment and this one were not easy.
There was a civil war that nearly tore the whole thing apart.
There were movements and marches and people who stood in the face of everything and said — you said all. You meant all.
There were generations who worked in silence and in struggle so the generations after them could stand a little taller.
There were immigrants who crossed oceans and deserts and every kind of hardship imaginable because somewhere along the way they heard about this place and believed — genuinely, with everything they had — that it was worth the journey.
And here we are.
250 years later.
Still becoming.
Still arguing about what those words really mean.
Still — and this is the extraordinary part — still trying.
That is what makes this country remarkable.
Not that it got everything right.
But that it kept going when it got things wrong.
That the promise written 250 years ago is still large enough — still ambitious enough — to challenge every generation that inherits it.
Happy 250th Birthday America. 🇺🇸
May we always be worthy of the promise.

🌿 Happy International Yoga Day.
Today, millions of people around the world will step onto a mat. Some for the ten-thousandth time. Some for the very first.
And no matter where you are in that journey — I want you to know something.
Yoga was never about touching your toes.
It was never about the perfect pose, the deepest backbend, or how flexible you look in a photo.
It is about coming home. To your breath. To your body. To the quiet place inside you that exists underneath all the noise of your life — the deadlines, the worry, the world asking you to be everything to everyone, all the time.
For nearly thirty years, I have watched this practice change people. Not just their bodies — their entire relationship with themselves. I have watched fear soften into courage. I have watched grief find a place to land. I have watched people walk in carrying everything, and slowly, over time, learn how to put some of it down.
That is the real practice. The poses are just the doorway in.
So today — however you celebrate, however you practice, wherever in the world you are — take a breath. A real one. Let your shoulders drop. Let your jaw unclench.
You don’t have to do anything to be worthy of that breath. You already are.
Happy International Yoga Day. 🙏
