New Northside Facility Update and Clinics -

Northside Facility Update and Clinics Progress is being made on the new Northside pickleball facility. The building beams have been painted for the most part, and the surface is being prepared for court painting. For now, Tuesday evening clinics (see below) will continue to be held in the indoor gym.

Lobbing at the kitchen can be very effective. But, in my experience, it's best to make sure that:

✔️ You're balanced.
✔️ It's your forehand.

Without these two rules, it's less likely to be effective.

When someone hits a good third shot drop, we have to be careful on our fourth. While we don't want to give our opponents time to advance, but we also don't want to make the mistake of hitting the ball up. That's what happens here. Once that ball is moving up, it gives the opponents the freedom to attack from the transition zone.

If you're at the kitchen, and you're unsure whether to hit the ball on a volley or off the bounce, take it off the bounce.

We can plan an erne or we can follow our instinct. In this situation, Dekel Bar reacts rather than anticipates. If you watch carefully, you'll notice that he doesn't even move into the erne until the ball is over the net. Long arms and reach allow him to make this shot.

Garrett, in the blue tank top, speeds up a ball by disguising the forehand as a backhand. Because he hit the tape, it becomes a debate on whether that is a risky shot or not. If it's a little higher, he might hit a winner. But a little lower, and he has instant regret. Would you try it? 🤔

What happens when you return a ball short and high? This is a great example of that. You know something offensive is coming but where? In this situation, the best option is for the right sided player to cover the line and left sided player to cover the middle. That's what they do here and it tempts their opponent into hitting the harder shot out wide.

Cover the most likely options and tempt the most difficult shot. You might get away with the bad return!

When we serve, it's common to stand near the baseline or even step into the court. That's okay if returns are short.

But what if they're not? Deep returns mean we have to backpedal, and the drop becomes more difficult. Or, especially in amateur play, a panicked lob is coming.

Remember that it's always easier to move forward than to backpedal.

Hitting volleys into the net happens too often? Why? Well, this video provides a good example.

1. Paddle is too low so that when the ball comes, the paddle must be raised before moving forward. This means you are sometimes late to the ball.
2. The swing is too big. Instead of a controlled attack, the player in this situation is probably excited about the chance to put the ball away and tried to hit it too hard. Notice how far the follow through goes and how
