Even though the court isn't huge, it can feel that way sometimes. And our ability to move around it is crucial to our success. Footwork and movement speed is highly undervalued in pickleball. This team in purple had no chance of winning this rally had the lady on the left not been quick and mobile. Her speed and tenacity kept them in the point.

You saw three volleys. Which one was harder? If you didn't say the last one... Well... We can disagree.

If you're a player that struggles with controlling speed, go after the player least powerful. Don't hit it to the person that's going to make your life miserable. Hit it to the one who's going to give you a chance.

The left shoe is a really good spot to dink to. It forces someone to get low down on their back hand side. Of course, if they're left-handed you want to go down to their right shoe.

One of the most common mistakes I see on the third shot drop is not getting set and not finishing the swing. When you don't do these it creates too much like an arm movement and often the the ball goes too far.

When you hit a smash, it's important to hit a deep. Hitting it short like this takes all of the energy out of the ball. It really slows the ball down and gives your opponent a chance to get it back. A less acute angle that places the ball closer to the baseline will cause much more problems for your opponents.

The harder you hit a ball, the more quickly it gets to the opponent, and the more quickly it comes back to you. Running through your drive is likely going to put you in this position, where you're moving and trying to hit the next shot. Stop doing that! Focus more on hitting a quality drive and getting ready for what comes next by stabilizing yourself for the next shot.

Practicing by yourself can be a challenge. Drives are an important part of the game but hard to practice when you don't have a feeder.

This is one way to practice.

- Face forward.
- If right handed toss the ball with your left hand in front to the right side.
- Step forward and turn.
- Paddle swings low to high.
- Kiss your elbow.
