OLD OAK BOWLING CLUB | OFFICIAL SEASON OPENING

What a fantastic way to officially kick off the new bowling season at Old Oak Bowling Club!

Saturday, 26 September 2026, was filled with good company, tradition, laughter and, of course, plenty of bowls!

The day began with our members arriving and placing their tabs in, followed by a formal welcome by our President, Muller Theunissen, and an opening prayer by Chris Liebenberg.

We then officially opened the season with a few words to mark the occasion before everyone enjoyed something to eat and got ready to head onto the green.

A special thank you to everyone who contributed to our collection for the Blind Bowling Association of South Africa. Your generosity will help support the wonderful work being done to make bowling accessible to those who are visually impaired.

Then came the moment we had all been waiting for…

The FIRST BOWL OF THE NEW SEASON was officially rolled by none other than our very special Oom Willem Steenkamp, who recently celebrated his incredible 90th birthday and Mens Club Captain, Craig Anderson, making sure he was on the jack!

And what better way to follow that than with our traditional SPIDER! Won by our own ladies club Captain, Leanne Anderson.

With the first bowl rolled and the spider completed, it was time for the tabs in!

A wonderful day with wonderful people — and the perfect start to what promises to be another exciting season at Old Oak.

Here’s to great bowls, good sportsmanship, plenty of laughter and making many more memories together.

WELCOME TO THE 2026/2027 SEASON, OLD OAK!

🌍🏆 HAPPY GLOBAL COACHES DAY! 🏆🌍

Today, on Global Coaches Day, we celebrate the incredible coaches who dedicate their time, knowledge and passion to helping others grow — both on and off the bowling green.

At Old Oak Bowling Club, we are incredibly fortunate to have coaches who do so much more than teach us how to bowl.

They teach, encourage, challenge, motivate and inspire.

They build confidence when we doubt ourselves.

They share their experience and wisdom.
They celebrate our successes and help us learn from our mistakes.

And they always strive to bring out the very best in every player.

A good coach can change a game.
A great coach can change a life.

To our Old Oak coaches — thank you for every lesson, every word of encouragement, every correction, every demonstration and every moment you spend helping our players become better bowlers and better people.

Your contribution to our club and our players is truly valued and appreciated.

What a special celebration at Old Oak Bowling Club!

Last week, we had the absolute pleasure of celebrating Oom Willem Steenkamp’s 90th birthday! 🎉🎂

Reaching 90 is an incredible milestone, but what made the occasion even more special was having THREE over-90s in attendance!

🎉 Oom Willem
🎉 Uncle Dom
🎉 Oom Albert

Three wonderful gentlemen, three incredible stories, and a beautiful reminder that the friendships and memories made through bowls truly last a lifetime.

From all of us at Old Oak Bowling Club, we wish Oom Willem a very happy 90th birthday and many more happy years filled with good health, friendship, laughter and, of course, plenty of bowls!

90 years young and still part of the Old Oak family!
