Cowboy Action Shooting is on tomorrow (sunday). See you there , beginners welcome, just turn up at 8.30am.đź¤
Saturday 1st August 2026 is Benchrest Day.
1st up will be Rimfire with 2 targets shot at 50 metres, one being a 100 Metre Hunter Class target and the other is an International Rimfire Benchrest target (IRB). Both targets require 25 scoring shots and as many sighters as you wish. This will be followed by a 200 Metre Hunter Class target shot at 100 metres with 25 scoring shots. If you have a 17 HMR, 22 Magnum or similar in rimfire, you can shoot these also.
You don't have to shoot all the targets.
Next will be Centrefire which is shot at 100 metres at 2 x 100 Metre Hunter Class targets with 10 scoring shots (2 shots x 5) in each target (total 20 shots) and as many sighters as you wish.
So bring your favourite rifles, they don't have to be expensive target rifles. Try and be at the range before 9:00 am if you're shooting Rimfire, if you want to just sight in and practice there will be benches available also.
See you there.

The 2026 Farr-Out Lever Action Silhouette Shootout hosted by the Bowen SSAA Branch is now done and dusted. We had 20 plus shooters competing on Saturday in the Smallbore event and again on Sunday in the Pistol Calibre event.
As usual the Bowen winds were on que with the wind picking at the start of each days competition, varying in speed and direction which may account for the lower than normal scores as this competition is all shot off hand, 80 shots each day. But we all had to deal with the same conditions.
We had shooters travel from Rockhampton, Sarina, MacKay, Dysart, Townsville and also the Bowen Club with a lot of the competitors and family camping at the range.
The competition was very well co-ordinated with Les on the microphone and stop watch running the shoot and Allan and Sally also very busy entering the scores in the data base after each set of silhouettes were shot and determining who tied at the end of each day for the shoot offs and who the final winners were in each grade each day and the overall winners.
Debra, Derek and Ron were also kept very busy all weekend cooking to keep everyone feed with 3 meals each day, plus smokos and snacks.
We also had the pleasure of a visit from Jim Farr who was the founder of this competition many years ago as an inter club competition between Mackay, Bowen and Townsville. The shoot was originally called the Blowin Bowen, but was later changed to the Farr-Out Lever Action Silhouette Shootout, in honour of Jim. Jim stayed for the presentations and presented the medals and prizes. Thank you Jim.
After many years the overall winner’s trophy has finally returned to Bowen after residing in Townsville each year since the inception of this competition, might have been a bit of home ground advantage, perhaps.
Every one thoroughly enjoyed themselves and can’t wait till the next shoot which will be hosted by Townville in 2027.

Just a reminder that this Friday 24th, Saturday 25th and Sunday 26th the Farr Out Shoot Out competition is on which is a Lever Action Metal Silhouette Competition so therefore the Bowen Gun Range will be closed for general shooting as per the calendar.
BUT if you have a lever or pump action rifle in 22LR and or pistol calibre with open/peep sights you can come and have a go. You just need to contact the club or myself (David 0427863255) before the weekend.
