Most people think they need to get fit before they start yoga. They have it backwards.
You don't arrive flexible. You don't arrive strong. You arrive as you are — stiff from the desk, sore from the years, unsure where to put your hands. None of that is a problem to fix before class. It's the reason to come.
Foundations is where you start. Slow, clear, properly taught. You learn to stand, to breathe, to feel how a pose is actually built — in a room where no one is watching you and everyone began exactly where you are.
No lycra. No experience assumed. An hour, and a little curiosity.
Your first class is free. Come and find out whether the room suits you.

Today is the shortest day of the year.
From here, the light turns back. Every morning after this one runs a little longer than the last — too small to feel, impossible to stop.
This is the hinge the whole year swings on: the quiet bottom of the curve, where the return begins.
Practice runs the same way. There are dark, stiff mornings when nothing opens. Weeks that feel like standing still. Then, without fanfare, a pose gives. The breath drops lower than it did last month. The light comes back in the body too.
Winter isn't the enemy of practice. It's the ground it grows from.
Mark the turn today — on the mat or off it. And if the cold has kept you away, this is the week to come back. Sunday Developing, 9:30. The room is warm and the practice inviting.

Five minutes with your legs up the wall will do more for a tired body than an hour of trying to relax.
Here's why. You spend all day upright — standing, sitting, driving. Blood and fluid pool in the legs and the nervous system never quite clocks off. Turn yourself gently upside down and the whole system reverses.
The pose is Viparita Karani. Legs up the wall, a folded blanket under the hips, arms open. That's the whole instruction. It's a quiet inversion, and the research on these is striking: lower blood pressure, less fluid retention, a real drop in the body's background hum of stress.
Set up tonight before bed. Stay five minutes. Don't leap up afterward — sit a moment first, or you switch the alarm system straight back on.
One caution: skip the inversion if you're menstruating or fighting a headache.
This is the heart of Restorative class —the body properly supported to feel the warmth of an open heart. During a Perth winter, there's little the body wants more.

A lot of people come to yoga through a doorway they didn't expect.
A physio suggestion. A shoulder that won't settle. Knees that complain on stairs now. Years of sport that the body keeps a quiet record of.
Mobility & Stability class was built for exactly this. Not a gentle wind-down. A careful, deliberate practice that asks the body to find length and load-bearing again — the way it was designed to.
Ann's Sports Science degree plus 25+ years teaching Iyengar Yoga full-time, offers you a class environment that is both supportive and exceptional value for money.
If you've got a history — whether that's decades of running, a desk that owns you, or a back that's been quietly letting you know — this class is worth a look.

Most people discover Iyengar Yoga when something stops working.
A knee. A back. The ability to get off the floor without planning the operation in advance.
Here's what surprises them: Iyengar Yoga isn't remedial. It's rigorous.
The method was designed for lifelong practice — for every age, every body — with dedicated teachers who are professionally trained and have years of experience using props and equipment that enable rebuilding what the years may have taken away.
Students come in cautious. They stay because it works.
Ann Dragon has been teaching this method for more than 25 years at the North Perth Yoga Room. Some students have been practising with us for over two decades.
That's not loyalty to a brand. That's something they found that actually changed how they move through the world.
