Let's make something clear, fat loss is HARD.

Sometimes the easiest way to say no is to remove the decision altogether.

Don’t keep highly tempting foods in the house. Delete SkipTheDishes and other instant access food apps. Build your meals around whole foods, prioritize protein and fiber, and supplement fiber when needed to help with fullness and digestion.

And yes, sometimes you’re going to be a little hungry. Hunger doesn’t automatically mean something is wrong, it can simply be part of spending time in a calorie deficit.

You don’t have to say no forever. You just need to say it often enough to make progress. Sometimes you need to be comfortable with uncomfortable, if the goal is truly fat loss.

We do technical work for motor learning , not for heavy exposure.

No grinding. No breakdown in position. No ugly reps.

The goal is smooth, repeatable patterning performed the same way rep after rep.

We practice the movement until the correct positions and sequencing become automatic, so when it’s time to handle heavy loads, the body doesn’t have to figure out what to do.

It already knows.

Deadlift recap.

At 5 weeks out, I made the decision to switch from sumo back to conventional. I gave sumo a solid run, but it never felt automatic in the way conventional does for me. That didn't leave a lot of time to turn the lift over and properly prep it for the platform.

With that said, I'm really happy with where the third attempt landed, especially knowing there was still more in the tank.

This meet also gave me a lot of confidence in the prep protocol itself. The timing was accurate, efficient, and everything came together exactly when it needed to. This meet was a qualifier and a trial run for bigger things to come.

1st attempt - 270 kg ⚪️⚪️⚪️
2nd attempt - 290 kg ⚪️⚪️⚪️
3rd attempt - 297.5 kg ⚪️⚪️⚪️

27 white lights was the goal. No misses. No fouls. Highest GL I've ever scored at 98.5.

Every goal achieved. Really happy with this meet, and even more excited for what's next.

Bench recap.

Bench went extremely well this prep and probably had the biggest technical improvement of all three lifts. Everything became more consistent as the prep went on, and I think we nailed the attempt selection pretty accurately on meet day.

I'm stoked to finally be out of a deficit and see what I can build over the next 6 months with some actual calories behind me.

1st attempt - 160 kg ⚪️⚪️⚪️
2nd attempt - 170 kg ⚪️⚪️⚪️
3rd attempt - 175 kg ⚪️⚪️⚪️

A good day on the platform, and a lot more room to grow.

Squat recap.

This prep was definitely one of the tougher ones for my squat. Figuring out my leverages while sitting 40-50 lb below my normal bodyweight was a challenge, and as my weight came down, my hips became less tolerant of the loads I was used to handling.

The strength was still there, but the bottleneck became pretty clear.

This next training cycle will have a big emphasis on building stronger hip flexors and improving my tolerance in those positions so they stop being the limiting factor in my squat.

1st attempt - 255 kg ⚪️⚪️⚪️
2nd attempt - 265 kg ⚪️⚪️⚪️
3rd attempt - 272.5 kg ⚪️⚪️⚪️

Three attempts. Nine white lights. Plenty more to build.

Focus more clear than ever.

Reaching a goal isn't an ending. It shows you exactly where you want to go next.

I'm proud of what I've accomplished, but even more excited about what I know I'm capable of building from here.

There are things to improve. Lessons to carry forward. Bigger goals to chase.

No rush. No distractions.

Just a clearer vision of the athlete, coach, and person I want to become, and the work required to get there.

The next chapter starts now.

Results are exciting. The PRs, the numbers on the bar, the changes in the mirror, those are the things we naturally want to see.

But progress rarely happens on the timeline we expect.

You can't always control how quickly the results come. You can control how consistently you show up, how much effort you put into the process, and what you do when progress feels slow.

Patience doesn't mean sitting back and waiting.

It means continuing to work when the reward hasn't shown up yet. On the days you don't feel like it, or you're tired.

Keep training. Keep learning. Keep stacking the small wins.

Be patient with the results. Be relentless with the work.

The foundation decides the ceiling 🤟

TEAM ONYX

Best overall female and male of the day

What a day for the team.

First and foremost, Joy. (GritbyJhoy)
First powerlifting meet. First place overall female. 🥇

I’m incredibly grateful that you chose to join Team Onyx and trusted me throughout this entire process. You always asked the right questions, took the coaching seriously, NEVER had an ego, and leaned into structured feedback like a pro and when it came time to perform, you gave it everything you had.

You earned your spot on this team 100%. This is only the beginning, and I couldn’t be more excited to see where we take this next.

For myself, this prep started all the way back in October.

54 lb down. Its been an amazing learning experience.

We had one very specific goal for this meet: 9/9 with all white lights.

And we did it!

272.5 kg Squat
175 kg Bench
297.5 kg Deadlift
745 kg Total
9/9 - 27 white lights. ⚪⚪⚪
98.5 GL (Best to date)

After a long prep, I couldn’t have asked for a better day on the platform or a better day for Team Onyx.

Proud coach. Proud lifter. Proud of what we’re building. Love this sport.

Next stop: Nationals.
