On the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, Universal Rail joins people across Canada in remembering the children who never returned home from residential schools, honouring Survivors, and recognizing the lasting impacts experienced by families and communities.
The day is also an opportunity to listen, learn and consider how each of us can contribute to reconciliation through our actions and relationships.
This year, we are grateful to share perspectives from Deborah Rose, Executive Director of the Edmonton Aboriginal Seniors Centre, and Elder Edward Lavallee, Plains Nehiyaw (Cree) Elder and member of the Centre’s Board.
Our video also shares the story behind Precision, a custom artwork created by Ojibway artist Ken Letander and featured on one of Universal Rail’s tamper. The conversations behind the artwork have been part of our broader journey of learning, relationship-building and increasing Indigenous awareness within our organization.
Across our Canadian offices, employees also received Honey Bee Mix wildflower seeds accompanied by a message encouraging reflection on Truth and Reconciliation—not as a single-day activity, but as something that requires continued learning and action.
At Universal Rail, we know reconciliation is an ongoing responsibility. We remain committed to listening, strengthening respectful relationships with Indigenous Peoples and communities, and translating what we learn into meaningful action.
