🚨 Team Announcement Out of Ontario 🚨
New lineup. Same goal.
We’re fired up to officially introduce Team Young for the 2026-27 season:
🥌 Nathan Young (Skip): 3-time Brier Skip and Youth Olympic Gold Medalist bringing national and international experience and leadership.
🥌 Brady Lumley (Vice): Back-to-back Ontario Tankard bronze medalist and 2025 Canadian Olympic Pre-Trials competitor bringing a proven track record on the World Curling Tour.
🥌 Matthew Garner (Second): Back-to-back Ontario Tankard bronze medalist and 2025 Canadian Olympic Pre-Trials competitor bringing a proven track record on the World Curling Tour.
🥌 Spencer Dunlop (Lead): 2026 Brier competitor (Team Ontario) with high-level championship experience including the 2025 Canadian Olympic Pre-Trials and World Curling Tour success.
The 2026-27 curling season will see Nathan join forces with Brady, Matt, and Spencer, who have each played together in different combinations for nearly a decade, providing a rare level of familiarity and competitive edge for a new team.
Our group combines national and international experience and success with a high performance drive to compete among the toughest fields in the game.
We’re coming in hungry: chasing Tankards, WCT titles, and a spot on the national stage.
Time to get to work. 💪 🥌

Fourteen years is a long time to keep anything together, let alone a curling team. That said, curling for Team Young will look a bit different next season. Colin is taking the year off and Nathan will be curling with a new team based in Ontario. Ben and Nate are currently exploring new options in Newfoundland and Labrador.
When we first threw rocks together as Team Young as a group of eleven/twelve year olds, none of us were thinking about “14 years”. Somewhere along the way, seasons stacked into eras, teammates became brothers, and what started as a lineup quietly turned into something much harder to define.
We’ve grown up on the ice together.
Different schools, different jobs, different stages of life, different versions of ourselves, but always the same names on the back of our jerseys showing up for practices, games, early morning flights, etc. That kind of continuity is rare in this sport, and honestly, it’s something we never took for granted.
There’s a lot we can point to, games won and lost, events, milestones, etc, but what stands out most is the consistency of it all. Showing up. Competing. Figuring it out together. Year after year. This consistency and continuity built through curling will last forever as we keep supporting one another on and off the ice. This is our superpower.
On the ice, the memories span local bonspiels, provincial events, national championships, and every card game of Wizard in between. From playing in our very first U16 Provincials to representing Newfoundland and Labrador at Canada Games, U18 Nationals, 3 U20 National Championships, and 3 Briers, we are extremely proud of what we have accomplished together.
What began as a curling team quickly became a family that has only grown and strengthened each year since. Sam continues to be a critical part of our group while he completes his Chiropractic studies in St. Louis, MO. And we would not be the curlers or men we are today without our incredible coach, mentor, and friend, Jeff Thomas, an amazing gentleman of the absolute highest character with a track record unlike any other. We are excited to see him increase his involvement with the Newfoundland and Labrador Curling Association's High Performance Program to ensure our province's future athletes and coaches are prepared to perform their best going forward.
We want to thank everyone for their continued support of our team over the last 14 years. Notably, we wouldn't have been able to do any of it without the support from our sponsors. We want to thank Hardline Curling, Goldline Curling, Service Master Restore, Orthodontic Associates NL, F.J Wadden, BDO Canada and Wedgwood Insurance Limited for your support and encouragement.
While the Team Young we are used to will be different next season, it is not the end and we look forward to future opportunities to compete together again. More to come soon on what’s next.
