We are Vancouver's first and only facility dedicated to parkour training. We are centrally located on Main and 10th, just a block away from major bus stops.

Our gym was designed and built by the same people that use it -- that means that all 10,000 square feet of the facility is full of structures and equipment that are specialized and of the highest quality. In addition to parkour, we also feature programs for tricking, acrobatics, and strength and conditioning.

Swinging can be scary because it puts you into a vulnerable position. Your body is horizontal and your feet are not underneath you. Add in the idea of releasing and regrabbing the bar in the 180 switch and you might be tempted to cut your swing short.

It’s best practice in parkour to work your way up slowly and it’s no different in this case. Follow the standard progression:

▪️Hang 180 drop
▪️Lache 180
▪️Tap your hands on the other side of the bar
▪️Attempt the regrab

If you get stuck between step 3 and 4, it might be because you aren’t swinging high enough. A higher swing will buy you time to take the actions you need to get the regrab. The more swing you have, the more time you have to complete the 180, spot the bar, make the grab, and prepare for the release.

While it is scary to add more swing, you don’t have to do it all at once. Take it slow, gradually add more swing, and get more experience in steps 2 and 3 before putting it all together.

The take off spectrum is a progression from precision landing to a springy stride.

Overshoot intentionally.
Progress from sinky plyo to stiff plyo.
Overshoot with a foot tap.
Adopt a strong stride position and follow through.

If you’re struggling to land on the next structure, check out Part 1: The Landing Spectrum.

When you understand the landing spectrum, you stop thinking in terms of success or failure and start thinking in terms of options.

It’s much easier to try a jump when you have options because you can scale your progression.

More options also means safer outcomes. Train these landing techniques on purpose, so that you’re ready for when things don’t go perfectly.

Stay tuned for part 2 ✌️
