🇨🇭 Swiss team shines at the Paragliding World Cup in Gemona! 🪂

The Paragliding World Cup in Gemona, Italy ended with an excellent result for the Swiss team.

🥉 Roger Aeschbacher claimed an outstanding 3rd place overall, securing a well-deserved World Cup podium after a week of consistently strong flying against one of the strongest international fields.

👏 Sarah Zimmermann finished 9th in the women's classification, adding another solid international result to her successful season.

Another great Swiss storyline came from Andy Aebi, who returned to international competition after an 18-year break and proved that experience never fades, delivering an impressive performance throughout the week.

Congratulations to all Swiss pilots for representing Switzerland with skill, determination and sportsmanship!

🇨🇭 Swiss pilots shine at SRS Le Grand-Bornand 2026! 🪂

Four challenging tasks over the French Alps delivered everything from demanding flatland transitions and turbulent ridge racing to an all-out high-speed final under blue skies. Throughout the competition, the Swiss team consistently proved they belonged at the very front of the field.

Highlights included:
🥈 Marco Sommerfeld storming to 2nd place in Task 3, while also adding a strong 4th place in Task 1.
🔥 Frédéric Monnet flew an outstanding competition, finishing 5th in Task 3, 8th in Task 1, and 9th in the fast-paced final Task 4.
💪 Gaëtan Ge**er secured 11th place in Task 4, with Pascal Blum following in 14th, giving Switzerland three pilots inside the Top 15 on the final day.

The consistency continued in the overall standings:
• Pascal Blum – 8th overall
• Simon Steiner – 10th overall
• Gaëtan Ge**er, Marco Sommerfeld and Frédéric Monnet all secured places inside the overall Top 25.

The Swiss teams were equally impressive:
🥇 Gin 2 won the overall team classification.
🥉 Alpine Wings finished 3rd overall, underlining the depth and strength of the Swiss squad.

🇨🇭 Strong Swiss performance at the Palz Open 2026

Four varied tasks in the Vosges challenged the pilots with strong northerly winds, demanding thermals, fast flatland sections and tactical decision-making. Every day required a different approach, making for an exciting competition from start to finish.

From a Swiss perspective, the event was a great success. Bruno Liard finished in an impressive 5th place overall, while Markus S. Wicki secured 16th and René Mühlemann finished 20th overall.

🥇 Marco Sommerfeld – 1st Sport Class (33rd overall)
🥈 Frederic Monnet – 2nd Sport Class (34th overall)
🥉 Francois Wagner – 3rd Sport Class (41st overall)

An outstanding achievement, with all three Sport Class podium positions going to Switzerland! 🇨🇭

Another highlight was Jeele Johannsen, who claimed 2nd place in the Reynolds Class, while Gael Frochaux delivered impressive tandem performances during Tasks 3 and 4.

🏆 Swiss Open Charmey 2026 – What a Championship!

After six unforgettable days in the Fribourg Alps, the Swiss Open Charmey 2026 has come to a close. Five demanding tasks, spectacular racing, tactical masterclasses and unforgettable flights crowned a worthy Swiss Championship.

A total of 80 pilots took on courses of up to 84 km, battling strong thermals, changing winds and challenging alpine conditions throughout an exceptional week of competition.

Stephan Morgenthaler successfully defended his title, claiming an incredible sixth consecutive Swiss Championship. Although he won only the opening task, his remarkable consistency throughout the week allowed him to stay on top of the overall standings until the very end.

Sarah Zimmermann once again demonstrated outstanding consistency, securing her third consecutive Swiss Championship title with a commanding performance across the entire competition.

⚡ Swiss Open Charmey 2026 – Task 4 Delivers High-Speed Racing!

Task 4 proved to be one of the fastest races of the competition so far. Despite the persistent easterly wind, strong thermals created excellent racing conditions on the 83.1 km course via Stockhorn, Dent de Broc, Schwarzsee and back to Charmey.

🚀 Markus Wicki stole the show with a bold tactical decision after Dent de Broc. While the leading gaggle pushed towards Charmey, Markus made a daring detour to the north, staying over higher terrain before gliding directly to the final turnpoint. The gamble paid off spectacularly, earning him victory by almost 3 minutes!

Even more impressive: he completed the speed section in just 1:42:58, averaging an incredible 45.1 km/h.

Tomorrow brings a new challenge. While thermal strength should remain excellent, warmer and more humid air could trigger thunderstorms much earlier in the day. The organisers are aiming for a shorter task with an earlier start to make the most of the available flying window.

🪂 Swiss Open Charmey 2026 – Task 3 Complete!

Task 3 brought another exciting day of XC racing, with pilots setting out from Vounetz on an ambitious route towards Gurnigel, across to Gibloux, and then south towards Montreux before finishing near Grandvillard.

The forecast played out almost exactly as expected. While the first thunderstorms began developing around Gstaad, weak easterly winds kept them away from the task. Instead, their spreading cloud cover gradually shaded the course, making the second half of the race increasingly challenging.

Only the strongest pilots managed to reach Gibloux, while much of the field landed east of Lake Gruyère after an intense battle with weakening conditions.

🪂 Swiss Open Charmey 2026 – Task 2 Complete!

Another spectacular day of racing in the Fribourg Alps is in the books.

With increasing north-easterly winds, today's launch was moved to Grandvillard. The steep take-off provided some entertainment before the race even began, with a few adventurous recoveries of runaway ballast bags and helmets, plus some launches that pilots would probably prefer not to see on video. 😄

Once airborne, competitors faced strong conditions and periods of surprisingly turbulent air, particularly around the ridge behind the Charmey launch. Those who mastered the challenges were rewarded with a stunning task through the western Fribourg Alps before returning towards Charmey.

Task 1 delivered everything we could hope for: strong thermals, beautiful flying conditions, intense racing, and a thrilling finish. After 2 hours and 24 minutes in the air, Stephan Morgenthaler crossed the line just 4 seconds ahead of Dominik Breitinger in a true photo finish!
