Oldham Rugby Union is delighted to announce the 1st XV coaching team for the 2026/27 season, and it sees the return of the three amigos; Jim Forster, Jack Sayle & Stuart Brennan.

As preparations continue for the upcoming season, with pre-season training starting on Thursday 2nd July, we asked each coach to give their hopes & views on the upcoming season:

𝗝𝗶𝗺 𝗙𝗼𝗿𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿 (Head Coach - Attack and Backs Coach):

"It’s great to have continuity with Biz and Moose with me again. With some new teams in the league, it will be a tough year yet again. We have to be positive in the way we look to play, and that starts with being fitter than last season, which means that a good pre-season will stand us in good stead.

With very few weekends off on the fixture list, it will be a long season. A settled injury free squad is what we are after."

𝗝𝗮𝗰𝗸 '𝗕𝗶𝘇' 𝗦𝗮𝘆𝗹𝗲 (Assistant Coach - Scrum and Lineout Specialist):

"Really excited for the season we have ahead of us, continuing to build on the platform we set last season will be our main goal, keeping Manor Park the fortress and winning more than we lose!

The first pre-season session will be the great test to see who’s had a good off season, and who’s had an excellent off-season, but I’m just itching to get going now. Things may be a little different this year with a new addition to the coaching staff, he won’t make much sense talking, probably wont want to walk much, and will always be thirsty so he’ll fit right in."

𝗦𝘁𝘂𝗮𝗿𝘁 '𝗠𝗼𝗼𝘀𝗲' 𝗕𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗻𝗮𝗻 (Assistant Head Coach - Forwards and Defence Coach):

"Really excited to see what the new season has in store for the lads. With some new tough opposition and plenty of local derbies, it should be a really competitive season.

Looking forward to getting stuck into pre-season, with plenty to work on. It should be a successful year for the club."

We kick off pre season with a double header at Bryniau this Saturday, as both the development and first team take on Meliden .

Gyda thristwch mawr clywsom am farwolaeth Sjef. Rydym wedi colli cymeriad arbennig iawn i’r clwb - rhywun a oedd wastad ar gael i helpu, cynnig cefnogaeth, a dod a phobl at ei gilydd. Nid yn unig aelod or Clwb oedd Sjef, ond ffrind gwirioneddol i bawb oedd wedi ei gyfarfod. Dyn oedd yn driw i’w egwyddorion.

Bydd ei golled i’w deimlo’n drwm. Mae ein meddyliau gyda’i deulu ar yr adeg anodd yma. Anfonnwn ein cydymdeimlad dwysaf atynt.

It’s with great sadness that we hear of the passing of Sjef. We have truly lost a remarkable character of the club - someone who was always there, ready to lend a hand, offer support, and bring people together. Sjef wasn’t just a member of the club, but a genuine friend to everyone who met him. A man who remained true to his principles.

His kindness, generosity and presence will be deeply missed.

Our thoughts are with his family at this difficult time. Please accept our deepest sympathy and heartfelt condolences.
