Inspirational athlete visits to primary schools across the UK 🏃🎖
🔗https://linktr.ee/greatathletesuk

The scheme was set up in 2005 by former Great Britain gymnast, Ben Brown. Ben featured heavily in the Back the Bid Campaign which eventually saw London win host nation of the 2012 Olympic Games. Ben was forced to quit his passion and dream of competing at an Olympic Games due to the lack of much needed funding in his sport. He was motivated to ensure that this did not happen to other sporting hopefuls and wanted to inspire children across the UK to take up sport and lead healthy lifestyles.

🌟Why athlete role models matter...

Following a recent event with Scottish para footballer Jonny Paterson, a parent contacted the school to say their child came home inspired to talk openly about also having cerebral palsy after being encouraged by Jonny’s story.

A reminder that sport is about so much more than physical activity - it’s about confidence and showing children what’s possible🌟

🌟 It's Walk to School Week 🌟

How many pupils in your school can walk, wheel, scoot or cycle to school this week? 🚶🛴🚲🧑‍🦽‍➡️

Small steps build healthy habits - incorporating movement into journeys to school is such a simple, fuss-free way for children to stay active, get fresh air and start the day positively!

The language we use around children’s sport matters 💬

It’s important to separate a child’s worth from their performance.

⚽ Swap “How did you do?” for “Did you enjoy it?”
The first question we ask shows children what we value most.

🎾 Let them try things without worrying about perfection.
Resist the urge to correct them as fun and enjoyment matter more than flawless technique.

Positive sporting experiences build confidence, resilience and a lifelong love of movement!

Did You Know?
At the 2026 Winter Olympics, Norway outperformed nations with over 60x their population🥇

How?
In Norway, youth sport is shaped by the Children’s Rights in Sport - a framework built around enjoyment, inclusion, and long-term development.
👉 No scorekeeping or ranking for children under 13
👉 Focus on fun, learning, and personal growth

The result? Less pressure, more participation and ultimately, better athletes!

Letting kids just enjoy being active is exactly what helps them reach their full potential🤩

'Jack Rutter delivered an unforgettable visit!'
We🩷this recent feedback from an event with our wonderful Jack Rutter:
'From an energetic fitness circuit full of resilience and teamwork, to a powerful assembly sharing his journey from academy footballer to GB Paralympian, the impact was huge.
His openness about rebuilding his life, returning to the sport he loves, and ultimately becoming a GB Paralympian/ Head Coach of the England Cerebral Palsy Football Team was both moving and deeply motivating.
Pupils left feeling motivated, inspired, and ready to take on new challenges - a truly special day for our school!”

Happy World Health Day! 🌍

Today is a great opportunity to highlight the vital role exercise plays in pupils’ everyday lives - with benefits that go far beyond physical health. Research from the Youth Sport Trust shows that physical activity can improve resilience, support better sleep, boost memory and attainment, and help with emotional regulation (& much more!)

At Great Athletes, our events are designed to keep children active, inspired and engaged -because in an ever-growing digital world, movement matters more than ever!

🍀Happy St Patrick’s Day!🍀

We hope everyone is enjoying the celebrations and soaking up the spirit of the day!

Today is a great time to celebrate three of our incredible Team Ireland athletes — Alice Sharpe, Kelly Murphy and Katie-George Dunlevy!

Each of them has overcome challenges on their journey to the top of their sport, showing resilience, determination and belief every step of the way. Now, they’re inspiring the next generation to dream big, stay active and never give up.

🙌Another fantastic school review!

After their recent event with our incredible Olympic swimmer Joe Roebuck, this school shared the following:

“We were absolutely delighted with the experience from start to finish. The organisation and communication in the lead-up to the event were clear and professional, making the process smooth and straightforward for staff.

The event itself was fantastic. The fitness circuit was engaging, inclusive and accessible for all pupils, ensuring that every child could take part and feel successful. Not only did the children have an unforgettable experience, but the fundraising aspect has also allowed us to invest further in physical activity and sport within our school.”

A huge thank you for the kind words and well done to all the pupils who took part!

The Paralympic Winter Games 2026 are officially underway!🏂️

We’re incredibly proud that our very own Paralympic skier, Sean Rose, is out in Cortina bringing his expertise (and great sense of humour!) to the coverage. Sean will be joining Billy Monger and Ed Jackson most mornings as a pundit, sharing insights and highlights from the Games.

Be sure to tune in for some inspiring performances and a few laughs as the world’s top Paralympians take centre stage (and good luck to all those competing!)
