To my fellow mums of teenagers… ❤️
Lately, I’ve been listening to Slipping Through My Fingers from Mamma Mia, and suddenly, I feel every word.
Because they’re still here. In our homes. We see them every day. Yet somehow, they’re becoming more independent, more private, more theirs… and it can feel like they’re a million miles away.
I didn’t expect this bit to hurt so much.
I’m incredibly proud of the people they’re becoming. Their opinions, their independence, their personalities. Isn’t this exactly what I wanted?
And yet, there’s a sadness too. Do you feel this?
As a life coach, I talk so often about embracing change, letting go and finding ourselves in new chapters. But being a mum makes it harder. I know I need to loosen my grip, but my heart wants to hold on.
I have more time for myself now. More freedom. And yet, sometimes, all I want is more time with them.
Perhaps this is motherhood’s next lesson: learning to love without holding too tightly.
They don’t need us less. They just need us differently.
And maybe our job now is to trust the roots we’ve given them, while finding the courage to grow too.
Because we’re not losing them.
We’re learning to let them fly. ❤️
