U13s V Barnard Castle
A fantastic team performance and some brilliant goals and debuts!
The girls took to the pitch on a beautiful sunny autumn afternoon. From kick off the Barny winger broke down the right and got a threatening shot off. It looked from the start like this was going to be tough match, however straight after this the girls rallied putting the opposition under continuous pressure. Ffion was quick to make her presence felt, pressing well and creating an early attempt on goal, while new face Dolly put in early strong challenges and also Imogen showed some lovely early touches on the ball.
Ffion continuing to search for opportunities and test the opposition’s defence. After a brief pause for some unexpected pitch maintenance (a rather inconvenient hole!), the girls got straight back to business.
Opportunities were now getting created with Bea showing brilliant effort tracking back and making long runs with the ball forward, Imogen unfortunately was caught offside for one of these great link ups between these two (exciting striker partnership for the future!).
A fantastic ball up the pitch from Abigail found Ffion, whose excellent attempt narrowly sailed past the corner of the goal (parents were ready to celebrate that one!)
Ffion was soon threatening again, striking the crossbar with a superb effort. Bea reacted quickly to collect the rebound and played the ball across to Beth, who kept her composure and finished brilliantly to put the girls 1–0 ahead!
Lily dominant in goal made a great save at the other end to keep the opposition at bay after our initial goal.
Beth then grabbed her second goal of the match after the ball was fed forward by Abigail, giving the girls an excellent cushion. With confidence growing, Bea got in on the action herself, scoring a brilliant third goal to make it 3–0…. Within the first 15mins!!
The girls continued to work tirelessly, with Grace tackling and applying pressure she linked up nicely with Ella, who showed great determination on a fantastic solo battling run up the pitch, never giving up.
Freya now in on the action made promising runs towards goal and was so close to adding another to the score sheet.
Erin produced a brilliant pass down the line to Bea, who had an excellent game, working hard and holding her position superbly.
Sofia was solid at back giving their winger a tough game forcing them towards the corner each time.
Liv as always controlled the midfield, great tackles and calmly playing the ball forwards, deserving of that captains arm band.
Abigail was a rock at the back, calmly controlling the defence and clearing any signs of danger.
Belle also worked hard throughout the first half getting great challenges in and balls forward.
At the break, the girls had put together a strong first-half performance, leading 3–0. The opposition’s wingers were quick and looked a potential threat, but the girls were defending well and taking their chances in front of goal.
The second half began with Beth testing the opposition, while Ffion worked brilliantly to win the ball back with a last second tackle and stop a potential goal-scoring opportunity.
Ella did a great job of holding up the ball before setting up Bea, who finished confidently to add another goal to the tally!
Bea kept running down the channels and now crossing the balls in to Imogen whose close-range effort narrowly missed. Another cross from Bea followed soon after, with Imogen getting into some excellent positions and looking increasingly dangerous in front of goal…..(the goals will come Imogen!!).
Ffion continued to battle brilliantly, while Esme did a great job of holding up the ball. At the other end, a dangerous-looking attack was intercepted by Abigail, and Dolly worked hard with quick challenges in to keep the opposition’s left winger quiet.
There was more excellent defending from Lily, who produced a brilliant save from a corner to deny the opposition. The girls continued to press, with Belle working hard to help prevent a goal and Abigail showing great determination to win the ball, turn and send play back up the pitch.
Freya also showed great skill holding the ball up and bring others into play.
For the final goal Grace played a nicely weighted ball through to Bea, who showed fantastic composure, using a clever dummy (surely she meant it….) to round the goalkeeper before finishing superbly for another goal! It was a wonderful move and a great reward for all the girls’ hard work. 5-0!
The team continued to battle right until the final whistle.
Full time! A fantastic team performance! Brilliant goals, determined defending, excellent goalkeeping and great teamwork throughout. Well played, girls — you should all be very proud! ⚽👏
