🌟 From Volunteer Coach to Qualified Coach & Referee ⚽

We wanted to give a special mention to Coach Charlie and recognise just how far he has come with Doncaster United.

Charlie first arrived with us as a 17-year-old, looking to gain some practical coaching experience to support his Sport Studies course. From day one, he was committed, enthusiastic, reliable and eager to learn.

What started as an opportunity to gain experience quickly became much more.

⚽ Charlie is now a fully qualified football coach
🟨 He has since become a qualified referee
🎓 He has strengthened his CV and experience ahead of applying to university
💷 He has earned money through both coaching and refereeing, helping him prepare for university life while giving him skills he can continue to earn from alongside his studies

But the qualifications only tell part of the story.

Charlie is genuinely one of the hardest-working young men I know. He has taken every opportunity that has come his way, listened, learned and continually pushed himself to improve.

For us, grassroots football isn’t only about developing young players. It’s also about giving young coaches, referees and volunteers opportunities to develop themselves.

Charlie is a brilliant example of exactly that.

This kid will go far. 👏⚽

ONE YEAR OF MINIS 💚🖤

It’s now been over a year since we started our Doncaster United Minis programme, helping young players take their first steps into football.

Since then, we’ve helped form 4 new teams and provided quality, age-appropriate coaching for children starting their football journey. 💚🖤

Some have gone on to receive Pre-Academy opportunities with clubs including Manchester City, Doncaster Rovers, Leeds United, Hull City, Barnsley and Sheffield United.

But Minis is about much more than football. It’s about helping children develop confidence, teamwork, communication, resilience, independence, friendships and learning how to win, lose and keep trying.

Most importantly, it’s about having fun and developing a love for the game. ⚽❤️
