❌ THE TOTAL REST MYTH ❌
Is Complete Rest Harming Your Injured Athlete 🤔 💭 ❓
🚨 THE DANGER OF DOING NOTHING 🚨
When a youth athlete suffers a minor injury like an ankle sprain or a broken wrist, parents often assume complete rest from all activity is required 🛑.
But total rest for an extended period causes rapid detraining across the body’s systems 📉.
📉FAST LOSS OF FITNESS 📉
The healthy body parts lose strength and cardiovascular fitness in weeks ⬇️. Complete rest actually slows down overall tissue healing 🗓️ and increases the risk of future injury.
🔀 THE NEURAL CROSSOVER EFFECT 🔀
Training your uninjured limb sends neural signals across the brain 🧠 to maintain strength in the injured limb 🤯.
Science proves it reduces muscle wastage and strength loss.
🔋 KEEP THE ENGINE RUNNING 🔋
Broken wrist❓
Train your lower body squatting/hingeing , trunk strength and single arm pushing/pulling ↕️
Sprained ankle❓
Train your upper body pushing, pulling, trunk strength and uninjured leg 🦵 . Never stop moving completely.
👥 KEEP THEM IN THE TEAM 👥
Social isolation can lead to negative impact on mental health 🧠. Keeping injured athletes involved in team training preserves their mental health and identity.
🧠 PROTECT THEIR MINDSET 🧠
Maintaining training schedules 🗓️ even in modified capacity helps prevents the shock of a hard drop off in physical and mental stimulation.
⏰ REDUCE TIME LOSS ⏰
Athletes who stay active during recovery return to peak performance faster. Active rehab beats passive rest every single time ✅.
📈 SMART REHABILITATION 📈
Do not keep your child on the sofa 🛋️ . Adapt their training, train their uninjured body parts while protecting their injury, and use science-backed methods to stay strong.

Want a simple way to measure your child’s power 💥❓
1️⃣ Grab a household measuring tape 📏
2️⃣ Have your child stand at the start line & jump as far as possible
3️⃣ Measure from the start line to the heel of the closest foot.
4️⃣ Divide this total distance by their height ↕️ to calculate their Jump to Height Ratio.
🔴 1.0 or less = poor
🟠 1.1 = average
🟡 1.2 = good
🟢 1.3 = excellent

🚨 THE BACK TO SCHOOL TRAP 🚨
Is Your Athlete Ready For The Term❓
🏐🏉⚽️🏑
THE 3RD WEEK PEAK 🛑
Did you know 🤔 💭 ❓
The highest number of injuries occur in the first 3 weeks of a new school term 📊. Growing bodies struggle with “too much too soon” , coming off a lot of downtime in the summer 🛋️ then straight into pre season 😥
IT IS NOT JUST THE SPORT‼️
School life can add 15,000+ steps a day 🚶.
Walking to class and climbing stairs repeatedly is a massive spike in activity and time on feet. Add in reduced sleep hours 🥱 with the new schedule and recovery can dip 📉
IMMATURE TISSUE NEEDS TIME ⏰
Muscles and bones 🦴 take time to strengthen against new loads. Demand often outstrips the pace of adaptation, when chucked in the deep end after a quiet summer.
SLOW AND STEADY WINS ✅
If your child coped well last week, only add 10 percent more training volume this week. Avoid back to back high intensity days as their recovery will be compromised 🛡️
RECOVER TO PERFORM 🏆
Don’t forget to:
1️⃣ RECHARGE (Sleep) 😴
2️⃣ REFUEL (Energy) 🪫
3️⃣ REHYDRATE (Fluids) 💧
4️⃣ REPAIR (Growth) ❤️🩹
THE ENERGY GAP ✋
Growth spurts 📈 plus sport 🏉 ⚽️ 🏐 equals high demand 🚨 If they do not eat enough 🍽️ , the body prioritizes survival over repair.
GO HOME. GO EASY. GO HARD.
Use a a simple 1 (poor) to 5 (good) wellness score to assess soreness and tiredness. Better to miss one session than a whole season 🗓️
BUILD THE CHASSIS 🏋🏼♂️
⬆️ Stronger children get fewer injuries ⬇️. Foundational strength builds a buffer and makes athletes resilient to sudden spikes in load 🛡️
