Jim Clark Rally

We have been advised that we have some of the club members at the Jim Clark rally in various guises.

We have asked the OAP members on their day out to take care when wielding staplers and watch for too much sun and the nettles.

Runners up…in the pink!

A selection of Hadrians finest visited our friends at Whickham to take part in their quiz night last night.

We ended up with a larger team of 4 than expected and forgot lots of motorsport knowledge to finish second behind Durham cohorts.

Brilliant night of banter, craic and wind ups, and that was only for Ken our quiz master for the evening. He did well, with a great selection of questions.

Our own Andy K won the first raffle price and promptly refused it….bless him he pulled his own numbers out of the bucket. Thanks to Ronnie for the free raffle tickets to everyone. Otherwise we won nowt.

Sterling performance from Mrs L whose knowledge really helped secure such a lofty position.

Full results attached but fair to say we were quick out of the blocks, missed a few code boards, should have reversed our answers at some points, but got to the finish for bait.

I'm the bringer of sad news.

Simon Goodwin, who many of the stage rally world will know as a lovely guy and a very good radio operator on rallies, died this morning.

I've copied the post from his wife -

He’s had various complications with his treatment since his cancer returned last year, and unfortunately, one of those treatments at Christmas caused the succession of problems that have followed.

He’s spent the last two weeks in hospital on 24/7 oxygen, and yesterday the decision was made to stop his meds as they weren’t working.

With the assistance of some painkillers today, he died a peaceful death.

We, as a family, along with Simon’s brother and sister in law, were all together yesterday, and today.

With the hospital’s permission, he was allowed a whisky, which he enjoyed - from a very expensive bottle he’d bought for his 65th! We joined him with a glass of wine.

Club Night Tuesday 11th November

Remember Remember the 5th of November…
Well not quite…

Reminder - club meet venue change on Tuesday 11th November.

I'd just like to say a huge thank you to all who turned out last night to help members of Hadrian Motor Sports Club celebrate our "70th birthday".

As the club chairman, Andy Whittaker had 'done' his back changing a cable on the TV, he was unable to join us.

As it happens, we were privileged to have our previous chairman stand in. Well, he was joining us anyway.

A certain Reiner Stockle had also agreed to chat for a few minutes about his time in motorsport. I didn't notice who long he spoke for, but he seemed to go for some time, referring back to a couple of used envelopes from time to time. Nothing changes as he did that when he was chairman at the club.

70th Anniversary

Plans are coming together for tomorrow’s event.

If you haven’t said you are coming you may struggle to get a pie so drop a comment quickly.

Some of our Members have been allowed back in the UK following a road trip abroad and we will hear all about this too between quiz questions.

Remember we have a raffle so please dig out your unopened old gifts and rally gear. Alcohol is a good substitute.

Hadrian Club Nights 16th and 23rd September

Hadrian Anniversary tour

A date for you diary - Sunday 26th October

To celebrate our 70th anniversary we are organising a tour on the afternoon of the 26th.

Start and finish from the Coffee shop at Belsay.

More details to follow but expect the route to pass a few rally routes and locations of the past, present and possibly the future…looking good!
