π CLEE TOWN LAPORTES ARE EAST LINDSEY LEAGUE CHAMPIONS! π
What a way to finish the season!
Clee Town Laportes came out victorious in a thrilling final-day shootout, with three clubs still in contention for the title going into the last round of fixtures.
The weather was almost as important as the cricket. Had rain prevented any play, South Bank Cricket Club would have been crowned champions β and they certainly did their best to make that happen, with their supporters spotted on the boundary edge performing a rain dance all day! π§οΈπ
Defending champions Grimsby Town Development won the toss and elected to bowl first. Former Clee Town captain Matthew Thompson led the way with an excellent 78, supported by a number of useful cameos, as Clee Town posted 213/9 from their allotted 40 overs.
Groundsman Mick Barton felt 213 was only a par score on what was an excellent batting pitch.
Clee Townβs opening bowling pair of Simon Taylor and Mo Abbas clearly werenβt listening to Mick, however, as they produced an exceptional opening spell to leave Grimsby Town reeling at 42/6.
Only Lincolnshire Under-18 talent Harrison Unsworth provided any sustained resistance for Grimsby. Once he was eventually bowled by the skipper, the result looked almost certain.
There was still time for some lower-order entertainment, with Aaron Dobson top-scoring for Grimsby with a spirited 34 before being stumped.
The skipper was then fortunate enough to take the final wicket and seal the victory β and with it, Clee Town Laportesβ first ever East Lindsey Cricket League title! ππΎ
A fantastic achievement for everyone involved with the club.
CHAMPIONS! ππ
