It's important that we all reach for the skies but not if it means that we fall flat on our face, time and time again.
This year, set specific, achievable goals and make it a year to remember (for the right reasons).

The reason I manage to workout consistently, even when I have breaks I still get back to it and that people MASSIVELY helps my mental health. I find if I dont workout for a period of time my mental health deteriorates.
An intense, sweaty session releases those endorphins and makes everything feel right in the world. It might suck. The workout might be hard. But to feel better mentally afterwards is so worth it no matter how hard the workout is!
Getting physically stronger makes you feel like you can take on the world too! Feeling physically weak makes you feel mentally weak. Your body feeling at its best helps your brain feel at its best.

One thing a lot of Personal Trainers wont tell you, instead theyll just try and tell you PT sessions alone will get you where you need to be...
CONSISTENCY. A simple word but something that is SO hard to do for so many people. But consistency is key. You don't need to be perfect with your diet. A week off wont ruin anything. You don't need to workout everyday and it doesnt matter if you take a couple weeks off training.
Its about what you do MOST of the time NOT some of the time.
Are you being consistent?
Are you giving yourself enough time to see change or are you expecting results overnight?
Are you really trying your hardest?
Dont make weightloss your goal. Figure out what you REALLY want, what weightloss will bring you. Make a plan, and stay consistent with it!
If a client comes to me and says "I want to be this number on the scales" ill ask why? Half the time they say its because its what they "used" to be. Okay but what do you want to be now? Being that weight on the scale, what will that bring? Because a number doesnt bring happiness. Focus on bodyfat not the scales.
Being able to play with your kids brings you happiness.
Being able to walk up the stairs easily brings happiness.
Feeling physically and mentally strong brings happiness.
DITCHING the scales brings happiness.
As a Personal Trainer we focus on your happiness and your FATLOSS NOT the scales and because I have a private studio you can focus on yourself more rather than worrying about other people around you like you would in a gym.

Do you cut things out in January in an attempt to lose some festive weight and get healthier?
I applaud your efforts to make a positive change but it could be a big mistake.
Eliminating certain foods or food groups from your diet can lead to an all or nothing approach resulting in periods of abstinence followed by bingeing.
Plus, it's extremely difficult to cut out something that you enjoy so you'll likely be miserable.
A better, long term strategy is the 80/20 rule. Make up 80% of your diet with nutrient-dense, low calorie, 'healthy' foods and allow yourself 20% of the junkier stuff that you enjoy.
Instead of cutting out certain foods or drinks that you really enjoy, try simply cutting back.
And aim to cut out the things that bring you no joy, like:
-The scales
-Comparing yourself to others
-Toxic relationships
-Diets
-Abstinence
-Arguing with morons online
-Caring what people think of you
