Not a piece of metal in sight! Unusually for these two members of our club they spent the weekend in Plymouth diving soft and squidgy stuff instead of shipwrecks. With flat calm seas, 15m visibility and great company on board Panther, an awesome time was had. They dived Eddystone Lighthouse and Hand Deeps. Whoever thinks there’s no colour and nothing to see in British seas, think again!

Our Diving Officer was fortunate enough to be invited to Malta to help test-drive a new BSAC course — the MOD 2+ course.
The course extends the CCR MOD 2 depth qualification to 70m, with a strong focus on calculating and using team bailouts to safely extend bottom time and manage contingencies as a team.

A fantastic opportunity to help develop and test the course under the expert guidance of BSAC Technical Chief Examiner, Woz.

An excellent few days of challenging diving, learning and helping shape the next step in CCR technical training.

If only we could be back aboard Ghazala Explorer, diving the incredible wrecks of the Red Sea… 🤿🌊

Sadly, we’re not — and we’re definitely missing it! So, here’s the next best thing: reliving our trip through this fantastic video, produced by the brilliant Mike Ward.

Mike didn’t just capture our adventures on film; he also treated us to fascinating presentations each evening about the wrecks we’d been diving — their history, the stories behind them, and the who, what and why of how they came to rest where they are today.

It was the perfect combination of incredible diving, fascinating history and great company. ❤️

The Mighty Thistlegorm. We were lucky enough to have four dives on this wreck and every one of them was fantastic. This is the footage from just one of those dives.

Our dive on the wreck of the Dunraven yesterday. She is a famous 19th-century British steam-and-sail shipwreck located on the southern edge of Sha’ab Mahmoud (Beacon Rock) near Ras Mohammed in the Red Sea, built in 1873 in Newcastle upon Tyne. She hit the reef on April 25, 1876, while traveling from Bombay to Britain. All crew members were safely rescued.
