“I need to get a bit fitter before I join a gym.”

It’s something I hear surprisingly often.

Particularly from people in their 30s, 40s, 50s and beyond who haven’t trained for a while.

And I understand it.

Starting something new can feel intimidating, especially if you’re worried about your fitness, strength or not knowing what you’re doing.

But here’s the thing…

You don’t need to get fit before you start training. That’s what training is for.

You don’t need to train every day.

You don’t need complicated workouts.

And you certainly don’t need to be perfect.

What you do need is a sensible starting point, some guidance and a plan that fits around your life.

At Atlas, we help people build strength, fitness and confidence progressively, with expert coaching and a supportive community.

No pressure to keep up with anybody else. Just a focus on getting a little better over time.

Because the goal isn’t to train hard for a few weeks and then stop.

It’s to build habits, strength and fitness that serve you for years to come.

Start where you are. Build from there.

More than just a gym ❤️

Another Atlas social done ✅

A walk down the Monton Loop Line, somehow dodging the worst of the storm again 😂, followed by a Sunday roast and a drink at the Blue Bell.

Really grateful to everyone who made the time to come along.

Training matters, but so does having a community of good people around you.

That’s a big part of what we’re trying to build at Atlas — somewhere people come to get stronger, fitter and healthier, but also somewhere they genuinely enjoy being part of.

Great people, good chat, fresh air and a proper Sunday lunch 👊❤️

💪 ATLAS MEMBER WIN — MIKE

Mike has been with us for a while now, but over the last eight weeks his progress has really started to show.

He’s:

Lost 8.5 cm from his waist
Dropped 3.5 kg (8lb) in bodyweight
Continued to improve his strength
Hit multiple PBs across his main compound lifts

And the best part is that none of this has come from doing anything extreme.

Mike trains a couple of times a week.

He turns up consistently.

He puts the effort in when he’s here.

And over time, he’s become more organised and more confident with his nutrition too.

That matters because Mike also has a busy, demanding job and is a dad to two young kids.

So this isn’t someone with unlimited time to train, meal prep and organise life around the gym.

It’s someone learning how to make good training and better nutrition fit around real life.

And that’s exactly what we try to teach at Atlas.

You don’t need perfection.

You don’t need to train every day.

You don’t need a quick fix.

You need a clear plan.

Consistency.

Patience.

Good coaching.

And enough time for the process to work.

Mike has applied that brilliantly.

The result?

He’s leaner.

Stronger.

Fitter.

More knowledgeable.

And still progressing.

That’s what playing the long game looks like.

Massive credit to you, Mike.

Keep doing exactly what you’re doing. 👏

Real people. Real progress. Built for life.

🥋 Another small step forward.

Today I received my second stripe on my purple belt. Nearly five and a half years into my Jiu-Jitsu journey, it’s a milestone I’m incredibly proud of.

If there’s one thing this journey has reinforced, it’s something I tell our Atlas members all the time:

Keep turning up. Keep trying your best. Keep learning.

Simple advice. Not always easy to follow.

There have been weeks when I’ve felt like everything was clicking, and others when I’ve wondered whether I was actually getting worse! 😂

Sometimes progress feels like two steps backwards before you take three forwards.

But you show up. Work on the fundamentals. Stay open-minded. Trust the process.

And slowly, those small improvements add up.

It’s exactly how I approach coaching at Atlas. Whether your goal is getting stronger, losing weight, improving your fitness or learning a new skill, progress is rarely a straight line.

There’s another lesson Jiu-Jitsu has taught me, too:

You don’t have to do it alone.

A massive thank you to Professor Mark Elliott, all the coaches and my teammates at Valor Jiu-Jitsu Manchester. Your knowledge, encouragement and support have made this journey possible — and kept it enjoyable, even through the frustrating bits.

That’s the kind of community we’re building at Atlas. Good coaching matters, but so do the people beside you: encouraging you, celebrating your wins and helping you through the tougher weeks.

Five and a half years on, I’m still learning, still making mistakes and still loving the journey.

The black belt is still some way off. That’s fine.

No shortcuts. No quick fixes. Just keep showing up and getting a little better.

Play the long game.

Built For Life. 🥋

Always starting over with your fitness?

It’s probably not because you’re lazy.

Most people genuinely want to get fitter, stronger, healthier and feel better in themselves.

The problem is usually that they’re missing the right structure around them.

They start without a clear plan.

They rely on motivation.

They try to do too much too soon.

They expect results quickly.

And when life gets busy or progress slows, they assume it isn’t working and stop.

Then a few weeks or months later… they start again.

That cycle is incredibly common.

Especially for busy adults trying to balance work, family and everything else life throws at them.

At Atlas, we take a different approach.

We focus on doing the basics well, consistently, for long enough to make them work.

Good coaching.

A clear plan.

Accountability.

Patience.

Progressive training.

And learning how to keep moving forward even when things aren’t perfect.

Because the goal isn’t to be “on it” for six weeks.

The goal is to build a way of training and living that you can actually sustain.

That’s why we play the long game.

No quick fixes.

No punishment.

No constantly starting again.

Just steady progress that builds over time.

Stop chasing perfect.
Start building consistency.

🏆 ATLAS MEMBER OF THE MONTH — STEVE SEDDON 🏆

Steve has been with us pretty much from the beginning, and over the last 12 weeks he’s made brilliant progress.

He’s lost 14 lb, become leaner, stronger and fitter, and consistently hit new PBs in the gym.

But the best part is the story behind it.

When Steve first came to see me, he knew he wanted to make a change to his health and fitness.

He was ready.

He just wasn’t completely sure where to start, what approach would work best, or how to make it stick.

That’s where the Atlas Method came in.

We gave him structure.

A clear training plan.

Accountability.

Support.

Guidance around nutrition.

And an environment where he could learn, build confidence and keep moving forward.

It hasn’t been a perfectly straight line.

There have been ups and downs, slower weeks, lessons learned and a bit of trial and error.

But Steve has kept turning up.

Kept learning.

Kept applying himself.

And kept trying his best.

All while managing a full-time job and family life.

That’s what makes his progress so impressive.

At Atlas, we don’t believe in quick fixes.

We believe in playing the long game.

Building better habits.

Getting stronger.

Getting fitter.

Improving your knowledge.

Taking more control over your nutrition.

And creating a lifestyle you can actually sustain.

Steve has embraced that brilliantly.

He’s also grown into a great training partner — supportive, encouraging and now confident enough to help other members with some of what he’s learned.

That matters.

Because being a great Atlas member isn’t about being the strongest, fastest or fittest person in the room.

It’s about:

Consistency.
A growth mindset.
Being willing to learn.
Supporting others.
And turning up ready to give your best.

Steve embodies all of those qualities.

14 lb down in 12 weeks is fantastic.

But the bigger win is that he now has better habits, more confidence and more control over his health and fitness than when he started.

And he’s only getting started.

October Member of the Month — thoroughly deserved. 👏🏆

Our first Atlas social ✅

This morning we swapped the gym for a walk around Buile Hill Park, followed by a coffee and a good catch-up.

Simple, relaxed, and exactly what I hoped it would be.

One of the things I want Atlas to become is more than just somewhere people turn up, train for an hour and leave.

I want it to be a place where people feel part of something.

Where members get to know each other.

Where friendships grow.

Where support extends beyond the gym floor.

And where improving your health and fitness becomes part of a better lifestyle — not another chore on the list.

Really grateful to everyone who came along this morning.

Great company, a lovely walk, coffee afterwards, and even the weather behaved for us.

A brilliant first social.

And definitely the first of many. ☕️🚶‍♂️💪

Two people. Two different goals. Two brilliant sets of results.

Louise and Daniel joined Atlas together around eight weeks ago.

But they weren’t chasing the same outcome.

Louise wanted to lose weight, tone up and feel better in herself.

Daniel wanted to add size and muscle while staying lean.

Fast-forward eight weeks and the progress has been excellent.

Louise is 14 lb down.

Daniel is around half a stone up, while maintaining his leanness.

Two very different outcomes.

But the foundations have been exactly the same.

They’ve trained consistently.

They’ve followed the programme.

They’ve applied themselves properly.

They’ve made sensible adjustments around nutrition.

And, most importantly, they’ve kept turning up.

That is something we talk about a lot at Atlas.

Progress is rarely about finding some magic exercise, secret diet or perfect week.

It is usually about doing the basics well for long enough.

Good coaching.

Good programming.

Consistency.

Effort.

Patience.

And a willingness to keep learning and improving.

What I also love about this story is that it shows why training should never be completely one-size-fits-all.

Different people have different goals.

The programme gives us structure.

The coaching allows us to adapt that structure to the person.

Louise and Daniel have both made a fantastic start, and there is still plenty more progress to come.

Massive credit to both of you for the work you’ve put in so far. 👏

Different goals. Same principles. Real progress.

🏆 ATLAS MEMBER OF THE MONTH — GAYNOR WHITESIDE 🏆

I couldn’t think of anyone more deserving to be our very first Atlas Member of the Month.

From the moment Gaynor walked through the doors, her attitude has been exceptional.

She turns up.

She works hard.

She listens..... (then takes her notes 😜)

She learns.

She encourages everyone around her.

And almost without exception, she does it with a smile on her face.

Her energy is infectious, and she has quickly become one of those people who makes the room a better place simply by being in it.

But what makes me particularly proud is how far she has already come.

When Gaynor first started with us, she told me she wasn’t even confident that she could get herself down onto the floor and back up again.

There was a genuine lack of confidence in what her body was capable of.

Fast-forward to now and I’m watching her deadlift 40kg, become noticeably stronger and fitter, move better and, perhaps most importantly, grow in confidence every week.

That’s what progress looks like.

And it brings me back to something I say to our members all the time:

Try to be our best member.

But being the best member doesn’t mean being the strongest.

It doesn’t mean being the fittest.

And it doesn’t mean being the fastest.

It means being consistent.

Having a growth mindset.

Being willing to learn.

Supporting the people around you.

And when you walk through the door, simply trying your best.

Not trying to be THE best.
Trying to be YOUR best.

Gaynor embodies those values brilliantly.

And the result is that not only is she improving her own health, fitness and confidence — her attitude is helping other people along their journeys too.

That’s what community is about.

As a coach, there aren’t many things more rewarding than watching someone begin to realise they’re capable of things they previously didn’t believe they could do.

Gaynor, you are an absolute joy to coach and thoroughly deserving of being our first Member of the Month.

Keep doing exactly what you’re doing.

We’re all very proud of you. ❤️

September Member of the Month — very well deserved. 👏🏆

6:30am. Full session. Great energy. 💪

There’s something powerful about getting your training done before most people have even properly started their day.

It takes discipline to get up, get organised and walk through the door when staying in bed would be the easier option.

But that’s where progress is built.

Not in one perfect week.

Not in one huge transformation.

In the small wins.

Turning up.

Learning.

Getting a little stronger and fitter.

Moving a little better.

Building confidence.

Then repeating it again next week.

That’s what I’m seeing from this group right now, and they deserve a lot of credit for it.

The coaching matters. The programme matters. The environment matters.

But ultimately, they’re the ones putting in the work.

Consistently.

Week after week.

And that’s why they’re progressing.

Brilliant effort from the 6:30am crew this morning. 👏

Keep stacking the small wins.

They add up to something big.
