Rebuilding confidence

Confidence can begin with something quite small.

Making a decision without asking three other people.

Saying what you need.

Trying something you’ve been putting off.

If cancer has affected your confidence, it can help to notice the moments when you do trust yourself.

Try this today: think of one choice you’ve made recently that worked for you.
What helped you make it?

Relieved. Unsettled. Both can be true.

“Treatment has finished. Why don’t I feel more like myself?”

It’s a question you may find difficult to say aloud, especially when people around you are celebrating.

You might feel relieved and unsettled at the same time. Your confidence, priorities or plans may have changed.

You don’t have to make sense of everything today.

A useful place to begin could be asking yourself:
“What feels different, and what would help me this week?”

The “Life After Cancer” page on my website is there for this part of the experience.

The new The Crossroads Coaching website is live!

Big thanks to everyone who helped me pull it together, gave me feedback and did all the technical stuff. I couldn’t have done it without you!

I wanted it to feel clear and welcoming, especially if you are trying to find your way after cancer treatment or are caring for someone else.

You can explore who I work with, what coaching is like, the Confidence After Cancer programme, personalised coaching and support for unpaid carers. You’ll also find client stories and free resources, including links to the Your Way Now podcast.

If you’ve been wondering whether coaching might help, please take a look. You can book a free discovery call if you’d like to talk it through.

Explore the new website: https://www.thecrossroadscoaching.com.

If you know someone who might find this support useful, please share it with them. Because life after cancer doesn't come with a map.

What actually happens in a coaching session with me?

You bring what is on your mind. I listen, ask questions and help you untangle it. Together, we look at what matters to you, what feels possible and the next step you want to take.

Some people arrive with a clear goal. Others begin with, “I know something needs to change, but I don’t know what.” Both are good places to start.

Sessions can be online, by phone or face to face in Sussex. We can talk about what would suit you during a free discovery call.

I’ll explain more about my approach on the new website when it launches tomorrow!

Confidence After Cancer Coaching

My Confidence After Cancer programme offers six one-to-one sessions over 12 weeks. We can focus on confidence, energy, boundaries, work, relationships or whatever matters most to you now.

There are practical reflections and check-ins between sessions. The work is shaped around you and your pace.

For eligible adults in Sussex who have finished active treatment, a limited number of fully funded places may be available through .cancerfund

You’ll find more about the programme on my new website from 1 October.

Why cancer coaching?

This is my Dad. He would have been 97 years old today but we lost him 14 years ago. He was an inspirational father, husband, grandad and always and accurately described as a gentle man. He was a successful business man and instilled a strong work ethic in me and my 3 siblings.

Dad’s experience with cancer has helped shape the way I work today.

He was first an amazing carer for Mum when she was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma in 1996. Their marriage was a strong and happy one but I am sure even he at times felt lost supporting Mum through countless hospital appointments, treatments, side effects and uncertainty. But he did it without complaint and memorably learned to cook (a boiled egg to start with but progressed to curry when Mum wasn’t at home (she hated the smell), something he never thought he would have to do, as Mum was always happy producing fabulous food! The cancer came back a few years later and Mum had to learn to live with the after-effects of treatment.

When Dad was diagnosed with lung cancer in 2012, it was a shock for all of us but he approached it with his trademark stoicism, still supporting and encouraging all the family during treatment. He had major surgery but that didn’t stop the rapid spread of the disease and he died only 5 months after diagnosis. The whole family was involved in his care and after his death, we mourned him whilst supporting a broken-hearted Mum.

I remember visiting him in hospital fresh from an interview with Albion in the Community – my first role working on Public Health early detection programmes and his face lit up when I told him I had got the job.

Dad was always there with a listening ear, helping me find my way and gently guiding me when I felt lost and afraid.

All of this experience and my work since that time has shaped how I work and my reason for coaching people affected by cancer. Whether that is the person with a diagnosis or the people caring for them, the reason is the same. I am here to listen, reassure and help you find your way to do whatever comes next.

You can read more about it on my new website when it launches later this week.

Thanks Dad x

Who is my coaching for?

I support people adjusting to life after active cancer treatment. You may be dealing with changes to your confidence, energy, relationships or priorities.

I also support unpaid carers who need space to think about their own needs while caring for someone else.

And I work with people facing a big life change or decision who want a clearer sense of direction.

You don’t need a polished goal or the right words before we talk. We can start with what is happening for you.

The new website will help you explore which kind of support feels right.
