That’s a wrap for Acomb FC 1st Team.

Following on from last night's 3-1 win, we are officially finished for the season.

First season as a brand-new side… and what a ride it’s been.

Lost our captain before the 1st game of the season, players in and out all season, and as for goalkeepers… they weren’t stacking up, they were disappearing.

Felt like every other week we were asking “who’s in net then?”

December?
Second bottom.
Relegation breathing down our neck.

Then came the 4-4 at Cliffe… and from there, something finally clicked. The lads stopped feeling sorry for themselves and started putting shifts in.

From that point on, we turned it around properly.
End result:

6th out of 13
31 points
Positive goal difference

Not bad for a team that looked dead and buried before Christmas.

The aim was simple: stay up and build.
Reality is, we’ve gone and built something solid, and given a few teams a slap along the way.

Massive credit to the management team as well, stuck by the lads when it was rough, made the right calls, and kept everyone pulling in the same direction. Easy to panic when you’re down there… they didn’t.

And fair play to the core group of players who kept turning up when it was grim. Anyone can play when you’re winning different story when it’s tough.

Now the worrying bit… lads are already asking when pre-season starts.

Give it a week at least.

Next year?

We’re not here to make numbers up.

To everyone who’s supported, liked, shared, or stood there freezing watching us, we appreciate it.

And don’t go anywhere…

Jack Stott’s highlights dropping soon — viewer discretion advised.

Big reason to celebrate today, Acomb FC under 7s champions.

Close game, ending 1-1 but the boys/girls Diddnt let down on the pens.

First season, first trophy. 🏆

🔥 Big night for the boys

Last night we secured our league status for another year, with a 4-0 win against Heslington FC, and after such a tough start to the season, it’s been a massive turnaround in the second half of the campaign, once the lads really started to gel.

The game was pretty much all our way.

🧤 Chris Haigh in goal was only called into action twice, pulling off a couple of crucial saves when needed.

Up top… the lads were hungry for goals.

And what followed…

🎉 A full-on Haigh party.

⚽ Chaz Haigh (Wallace) x2
⚽ Miles Haigh (Grommet) x1
⚽ Marcus Haigh (I ❤️ Claire) x1

A dominant performance and a fully deserved result.

👏 Massive credit to the lads, from where we started to where we are now, it’s been some turnaround.

Just two games left to finish the season strong.

🕯️ Special mention for our captain, Lewis Smith

After being named on the bench, he unfortunately spat his dummy out, was handed his bottle, and sent to bed early.

We’re pleased to report he’s in much better spirits today. 🕯️

🔴 Up The Dogs, nearly there now.

No write-up from the weekend.

We lost 2–1… in a game we absolutely dominated.

One of those days where the result doesn’t reflect the performance, but we move on.

Also, the online snipes aimed at our Scottish Pirlo don’t go unnoticed.

Truth is, you couldn’t lace his boots, Wilberpigs.

⚽ MATCH REPORT

We headed over to Harrogate on Saturday to face a side in good form, sitting 4th in the league.

Great set of lads… but f**k me, that pitch is better suited for off-roading, makes Chesney Field look like Wembley, and that’s saying something. 😂

From the first whistle, we were in complete control.

Playing some great football, moving it well, and looking like a constant threat going forward.

It didn’t take long for the breakthrough.

⚽ Marcus Haigh finished off a stunning cross from Sheldon to put us 1–0 up.

We smelt blood… and went straight back at them.

⚽ Marcus again, second of the game and a well-earned brace 🔥

Not long after…

⚽ Sheldon got himself on the scoresheet with a tidy finish of his own.

And before the half was out…

🎯 Luca (Scottish Pirlo / Van Persie hybrid) stepped up to fire home the fourth.

4–0 at the break.

🥱 The second half… not much to write home about.

The wind picked up, the game slowed down, and it turned into a bit of a scrappy affair.

We did concede one, but we’ll happily blame Mother Nature for that one 🌬️

That pitch has a lovely little valley running through it, one minute the ball looks perfect for a clearing header, the next you’re about five foot away from it.

Not ideal.

🏆 Man of the Match: Louis Cade
💪 Solid performance in the middle
🎯 Dictated play throughout
⚡ Aggressive in winning the ball back

A strong performance overall and another good result on the road.

We’ve got one more weekend game before we move into the night fixtures for the remainder of the season.

🔴 Up The Dogs — onto the next.

⚽ MATCH PREVIEW

🔥 Big one this weekend

We head back over to Harrogate to take on Harrow Hill Reserves, and there’s a bit of history in this one.

Last time out, Harrow Hill came to Chesney Field and took all three points with a 2–1 win…

Safe to say, that hasn’t been forgotten.

The boys are focused, fired up, and ready to put that right.
