We’ve had some brilliant new additions to the squad over the summer and we’re so excited to get the new season started! ⚽️🙌

We’re still on the lookout for 2 or 3 more players to add to the squad… and we’d especially love to find an experienced goalkeeper 🧤

Huntington Rovers U10s Tournament

The girls arrived for their second tournament of the season in good spirits after their end of year awards bash the day before.

They have been loving the 5-a-side format, taking home silverwear on each of the last two occasions and arrived at Huntington looking to make it 3 in a row.

The girls got off to a strong start, LH prodding home on the goal line to win their first game with just 4 seconds left on the clock. Next up, they were on the wrong side of a late goal against Huntington, having to settle for a point when it looked like they were going to take all 3. A mixed bag of results followed as the girls struggled to get to grips with the smaller pitch and multiple personnel and positional changes. There were some good moments, MB scoring a couple of individual goals, but the girls did not look like themselves during the group stages and ended up in the lower part of the table.

A short break before the knockout phases gave the girls an opportunity to reset. These lot have showed up where it matters all season and in their semi final vs Brayton they looked like a completely different side. MR was back on form, firing in a quick fire double before MB fired in an unstoppable long-range free kick to take us in to the final versus Huby Corinthians. This one was always going to be tight and both sides had some close things but they could not be separated at the final whistle and so it was on to penalties.

A number of RIs regular penalty takers were on the bench but RB and MB bravely put themselves forward, dispatching their strikes with confidence into the bottom left hand corner. FS was unlucky to see the first penalty role in and made a miraculous save to deny Huby’s second penalty taker before cooly stepping up herself to slot home no. 3, An unlikely goalscoring hero and it was lovely to see all of the girls run over and celebrate with her. Overall, it was a tournament of ups and downs but the girls showed a lot of character to turn it around and take home another trophy for the cabinet – DB and FS doing the honours on this occasion.

Well done to all the girls. A special mention for our 2 junior coaches for the day HD and AS and a big thank you to Huntington Rovers for hosting us and putting on a great day for all the teams involved.
