ππ€ U10s - Wiggington Gala Report ππ€
After finishing their league campaign at the finals weekend in Poppleton last Saturday, the girls arrived at the Wiggington Gala on a rich run of form and hungry to bring home a winners medal this time around. The sun was shining and all of the teams were in good spirits for the first tournament of the season. The league section started with 7 no. 10-minute games before branching off into the knockout stages. The girls started strongly, conceding very few chances throughout all the fixtures and scoring plenty at the other end with our M and M strikeforce on top form and AS, RB and MB also chipping in with a few goals. The highlight of the group stages was a first goal of the reason for FS, scored directly from a goalkick and it was great to see how much it meant to her as the girls all ran over to celebrate. Overall, it was a mix bag of results with the short format proving quite challenging to manage substitutes and keep the game flowing but all of the girls were playing their part whether on or off the pitch. As they progressed to the knockout stages, the team clearly moved up a gear playing with only 1 at the back and focuses more on attack. They edged past Huby Corinthians in a tight semi-final before taking on Thirsk in the final of the plate. The longer game time favoured the RI lot as they dominated the game from the first whistle, MR scoring from long range as the team created mulitple chances to extend their lead. They scored early in the second half and MR picked up the matchball shortly after as the team brought on fresh legs to see out the game. At the final whistle the girls ran over to celebrate with their sunburnt parents, who had been promised 'the sealion' celebration for all their support during the day. Players and embarrased coaches duly obliged before heading over to the clubhouse to pick up the trophy. Overall a fantastic day out and a great start to the tournament season for this lot. They are going from strength to strength at the moment although their celebrations still need a bit of work. Thank you to our hosts Wigginton Grasshoppers F.C. 82 on a very well run Gala. Well done to all the girls

ππ€ York RI U10s - Cup Finals Day ππ€
A fabulous end to the season saw the girls reach the League Final at Poppleton, where they faced the formidable Wiggington Whites.
The Whites are a very strong side but the girls have taken points off them on a couple of occasions now and went into the game full of confidence. They started very well, containing Wiggintonβs attack and hitting them on the counter with a couple of close efforts from MB and MR. As the half wore on, the Whites began to get a foothold in the game and their tricky strikers were causing problems for the RI defence. Our No.1 was in good form though, managing to hold on to most efforts and then relieving the pressure with her long goal kicks. The Whites got a breakthrough on the stroke of half time and went in ahead after a very competitive first half.
In the second half, RI struggled to make any clear cut chances as the team worked hard to break through the midfield and just couldnβt deliver the final ball or catch a loose break. Wigginton again looked dangerous and had a lot of possession. They managed to double their lead half way through the second half but the RI defence did not give up and limited them to just a few half chances and long range efforts. The girls needed a breakthrough to set up a tense finale but they struggled to maintain any continued pressure, as the Whites defence proved difficult to pe*****te.
You cannot fault the effort of these girls. Everyone of them put in an absolute shift and to run the league leaders very close in the Final is something they should be proud of. This season has been an absolute journey for the U10βs. We started the year with only 7 players in the first few fixtures, including 3 girls playing a year up. A couple of good signings and vast improvement across the whole squad saw us enter the top league and finish second only to last yearβs Champions. Their finalist medal was certainly well deserved and overall, they have had a brilliant season. Some great goals, last minute winners, goal line clearances, penalty saves and dodgy celebrations. They have come back from heavy losses, stuck together and ended the year on a real high so well done to all the players, coaches, parents and siblings that have been on the journey with us. It has been a rollercoaster.

β½οΈππ€ GAME DAY 11/04/2026: York RI U10 Girls ππ€β½οΈ
The Girls had an early start on Saturday, welcoming Strensall for the last game of the regular season. The Tigresses are a slick outfit and had dominated this fixture earlier in the season but the team has taken strides forward since then and this one was expected to be close.
The first half ebbed and flowed, RI taking an early lead through MR before the away side edged ahead with a couple of long range finishes from their excellent central midfielder. MR doubled her tally before the break, equalising with a poachers finish before being denied her hat-trick soon after by an athletic save from the Strensall keeper.
Both No.1βs were having great games. There were close things at either end as Strensall tried to break down a resilient RI defence and the home side continued to look dangerous on the counter. It was a tense game with both sides looking to reach the league final against Wiggington Whites in a couple of weeks-time. Defences were mainly on top in the second half but overall it was a great watch for the parents and coaches and a thrilling end to the Season.
The girls have progressed a lot this year, showing real improvement in every round of fixtures and fully deserve their trip to Poppleton for finals weekendβ¦..even though they were more excited about the team day out to Flamingo Land Resort as reward for all their efforts.

β½οΈππ€ U10s Game Day - 28/03/26 ππ€β½οΈ
The girls were on the road again on Saturday and looking to continue their fine recent run of form against Thirsk Falcons. It was the first time these two sides had met this season after their last game was called off and so neither team knew what to expect. RI were missing a couple of players and carrying a few knocks but they started very strongly playing into a fierce wind. LH was looking dangerous on the right wing and started the scoring with a cool finish from an MB cross. MR was on the score sheet soon after, having passed a late fitness test. The girls were in confident mood and had a few other close things just before the break. The coaches know the next goal after half time was going to be crucial and AS added a quick-fire double and was only the width of a post away from her hat-trick as RI continued to make chances. A few positional changes didn't disrupt the flow of the game but the Falcons were looking a threat on the break. They had a few close things but FS was looking formidable between the sticks, coming quickly off her line to s***f out any danger. In the last few minutes, MR managed to add to her tally for the season, poking home from close range before curling an effort in off the post to complete an all round excellent display. This lot are on a roll at the minute and are holding their own in the highly competitive Spring league. Well done girls - keep it up ππ€
