10 years ago today, the made its first appearance on the international stage in Texas. It marked the beginning of the international team, with 17 lifters earning their place.

Back then, the Junior, Open, and Masters age groups all competed back-to-back, with the World Championships lasting two full weeks.

There were no prime time sessions. If you qualified, you competed alongside the very best in your weight class everyone shared the same platform.

Pictured here are , , both reigning National Champions at the time, and the legend .

It was the start of an incredible journey for Irish powerlifting back on the IPF world stage.

Don’t be that lifter that pulls out of meets because things don’t line up perfectly. The longer you’re in this sport, the less likely you are to have the “perfect” prep or peak.

In nearly 20 years of coaching, I’ve never had a lifter come up to me after a meet and say they regretted doing it.

You’ll learn more from poor preps and bad meets than you will from the good ones. It builds resilience and mental toughness. Once you start pulling out of meets, it quickly becomes a habit and not a good one.

If you commit to a meet and you’ve got four working limbs, see it through good or bad. You’ll be proud of yourself afterwards, and you’ll learn a little more about yourself too.

Over the last 15 years, ABS has built some of the best squatters in the world across every platform and equipment class tested, untested, sleeves, and wraps.

No matter how you choose to compete, the same principles still build big squats.
