FULL-TIME | WEEKEND WRAP 🐍⚽💙🩷
Another action-packed weekend for our HSOB and HSOG whānau, with plenty of positives to take away across both fixtures.
The HSOB Eels went down 2-1 to a quality Ngatapa side in a hard-fought contest. While the result didn’t fall our way, the lads showed plenty of grit from first whistle to last. Our goal came courtesy of an own goal, and congratulations to AJ, who picked up MVP after another tireless performance. A big congratulations to Ngatapa who lock away the Gisborne Glass challenge shield until next year!
Sunday belonged to the HSOG women, who produced a brilliant 7-0 victory over Thistle. The standout performance came from Materoa, who was simply unstoppable, bagging an incredible double hat-trick (6 goals) in one of the club’s finest individual displays this season. 🔥⚽⚽⚽⚽⚽⚽
A special mention also goes to Courtney, who added the seventh, while Bella earned MVP honours after another outstanding all-round performance.
Results don’t always tell the full story, but this weekend showcased the effort, resilience and quality that continues to grow across our club.

💗 $6,700+ Raised for Breast Cancer Foundation NZ! 💗
What an incredible effort from our football community 👏👏👏
Thanks to the generosity of our players, supporters, volunteers, sponsors, raffle donors and everyone who contributed over the weekend, we are proud to announce that together we raised just over $6,700 for Breast Cancer Foundation NZ.
This is what community is all about. Clubs, families, friends and rivals all coming together behind a cause that touches so many lives.
“Many hands make light work, but many hearts make lasting change.”
A heartfelt thank you to everyone who donated, purchased raffle tickets, gave their time, or simply came along to support. Every dollar raised will help make a meaningful difference, and we’re incredibly proud of what we achieved together 💗
On the field, HSOG enjoyed a fantastic afternoon, taking on a combined team of volunteer players from Thistle Marist and United. A huge thank you to those players for getting behind the day and helping make it such a success in addition to donating to the cause.
HSOB Eels fought out a gritty 0-0 draw with Black Hearts in one of the toughest matches of the season. Congratulations to Black Hearts, who have effectively wrapped up the 2026 Division 2 title 🏴☠️ A well-deserved achievement for a talented young side and coaching group.
Finally, congratulations to all of our raffle winners, and thank you once again to everyone who donated prizes, supported the raffle, and made dontations directly through our link. And a VERY special shoutout to our Council Parks & Community team for spraying up a pink football pitch at the Oval for the occasion! 💪
We’re already looking forward to doing it all again next year as we shine a light on another worthy cause. Until then, thank you for proving once again that when a community comes together, amazing things happen. 💗💙

💙🤍 THAT'S A WRAP ON OUR 2026 PREMIER SEASON. 🤍💙
It wasn't the ending we had hoped for, with YMP taking the Lee Brothers Shield 17–16 in a match that could have gone either way.
To our Premier boys—you wore the Blue & White with pride all season. You represented our club with commitment, courage, and heart, and you left everything out on that field. While the result wasn't ours, the effort, determination, and character you showed throughout the year is something every HSOB supporter can be proud of.
To our coaches, managers, medical team, volunteers, and everyone who worked tirelessly behind the scenes—thank you. Your time, passion, and commitment are what make this club so special.
To our incredible sponsors, thank you for believing in us and standing alongside our club throughout the season. Your support allows our players to do what they love, and we are incredibly grateful.
And finally, to the Blue & White faithful—thank you. Week after week, rain or shine, home or away, you turned up. You cheered, you encouraged, and you stood proudly behind our boys. Rugby clubs are built on people, and we are lucky to have some of the very best.
The shield may have slipped away by a single point, but no one can take away the pride, the memories, and the spirit shown by this team.
We'll learn. We'll grow. And we'll be back.
Blue & White. Always.

💙🤍 TOMORROW, WE PLAY FOR LEGACY. 🤍💙
Saturday is not just another game.
It is the Lee Brothers Shield Grand Final. It is another chapter waiting to be written in the proud history of HSOB Rugby.
Legacy is more than a word. It is what remains long after the final whistle has blown. When the boots are muddy, the crowd has gone home, and only the jersey, the shield, and the stories remain.
This club has built a legacy that few can match. Twenty Championships. Seventeen Lee Brothers Shields. Generations of men have worn the Blue & White with pride, carrying the weight of those who came before them. They found a way through adversity, through disappointment, through sacrifice, and in doing so, they built the standard that this club is known for today.
History has never been written in comfort. It has been forged on cold Tuesday and Thursday nights under the lights, in every tough training session, every gym workout, every bruise, every setback, and every sacrifice made when nobody was watching.
Grand finals are decided in moments. A tackle that simply has to be made. A scrum that refuses to go backwards. A kick chase when the legs are burning. One more carry. One more effort. One teammate willing to dig just a little deeper for the person beside him.
Those who came before have already written their chapter in the story of HSOB Rugby. They protected the mana of the jersey and left it in good hands.
Now, that story belongs to this group.
Tomorrow isn't about creating someone else's legacy. It's about creating your own. Trust your preparation. Trust the brother beside you. Play for the jersey. Play for every supporter who has stood on the sideline this season. Play for every player who has proudly worn the Blue & White before you.
Because finals aren't given.
They're earned.
Now it's our turn as a club.
Tomorrow, let's fill Rugby Park with Blue & White. Bring your whānau, bring your mates, bring your voice, and stand proudly behind this team for 80 minutes. Let's create an atmosphere worthy of a grand final and show our boys what it means to represent HSOB.
