Strategy Myth: Why Documented Plans Fail | The Forged Leader 08/06/2026

A great strategy isn't measured by how well it's written.

It's measured by how well it's lived.

If your strategic plan has been sitting untouched since the last planning session, this article might be worth a read. I share why strategy should be something you actively work through, not something that gathers digital dust in a shared folder.

I hope it gives you a few practical ideas for keeping your strategy alive throughout the year.

Enjoy the read, and as always, enjoy the journey.

Strategy Myth: Why Documented Plans Fail | The Forged Leader Think a documented business strategy is enough? Jono Brake breaks down why static plans fail and how ex*****on rhythms drive actual growth.

My Strategy Is Documented - That's Enough | Monday Myth Check 08/03/2026

Your business strategy is out of date the minute you click save.

I see it happen all the time.

A leadership team steps away for an expensive two-day retreat. They spend thousands of dollars, debate big ideas, document a massive 3-year plan, and celebrate.

Then everyone goes back to the office, and business happens.
No plan survives first contact with reality.

If your strategy lives strictly inside a PDF or a binder on a shelf, it’s not serving you. It’s just an expensive day out for your executive team.

Real strategy isn't about writing a perfect plan upfront. It's about building a rhythm of ex*****on.

Are you looking at your strategy every single week, month, and quarter? Or are you just hoping things line up at the end of the year?

Does that make sense?

If you want to turn your static strategy into an actual growth engine, send me a message.

Your Plan Is Not Your Purpose | The Forged Leader 07/28/2026

Ever had a plan that looked perfect... until reality got involved?

I certainly have.

One of the biggest lessons I've learned is that when your purpose is clear, a broken plan doesn't have to break you.

This article shares why your strategy isn't your purpose - and why knowing the difference changes the way you lead through setbacks, uncertainty, and change.

If you're navigating one of those seasons right now, I hope this encourages you.

Enjoy the read, and as always, enjoy the journey.

Your Plan and Purpose Are Not The Same | Monday Myth Check 07/27/2026

Everyone has a plan until they get punched in the face 🥊

Mike Tyson said it, and honestly, he wasn't wrong.

I’m coming to you live from Jaco, Costa Rica, where I’ve been speaking with business owners and leaders from across Central America. And during our conversations, a massive myth kept rearing its head:

"I have a business plan, so that is my purpose."

No, it isn't.

Your plan is just the vehicle. Your purpose is the destination.

When you mix the two together, you run into a dangerous trap. The moment your plan hits its first major snag, you won't just question the strategy - you'll question your entire identity.

I’ve been there. I’ve run a business that didn’t just lose money; it drained my emotional resources. I had to step back, re-evaluate my identity, and separate who I was from the daily plan.

Does that make sense?

Your purpose is broader than your business. It anchors you. When the plan fails, your purpose tells you to dust yourself off and keep going.

Stop letting a broken plan break your spirit.

What’s the real purpose driving your business today?

Let’s chat in the comments. Or, if you want to realign your leadership strategy, DM me "PURPOSE" and let’s get to work.

Enjoy the journey.

Is Busyness Killing Your Purpose? | The Forged Leader 07/22/2026

Sometimes a short video only scratches the surface.

After this week's Monday Myth Check, I wanted to spend a little more time unpacking the relationship between purpose, direction, and the daily habits that quietly shape where we're heading.

If you've ever looked at a full calendar and wondered whether you're actually moving toward what matters most, this article is for you.

As always, enjoy the journey.

Is Busyness Killing Your Purpose? | The Forged Leader Think a packed calendar means you’re fulfilling your purpose? Discover why busyness causes leadership drift, and how to audit your schedule today.

Busyness Means I Am Fulfilling Purpose | Monday Myth Check 07/20/2026

Are you actually building a business, or are you just addicted to being busy?

We’ve all done it.

Someone asks how you’re going, and your default answer is: "Good, mate. Just busy!"

But here’s the hard truth: Busyness is not evidence of progress. It's often just noise.

This is how leadership drift starts. We fill our calendars with endless emails, tasks we should have delegated months ago, and daily fires to fight. We feel like we’re doing a lot, but we aren't actually moving the needle.

I get into this trap myself. But as leadership coach Andy Stanley says: "Your direction, not your intention, determines your destination."

Stop drifting. It’s time to align your daily calendar with your actual purpose.

Go look at your calendar for this week. If I looked at it, would I see strategic growth, team development, and family time? Or would I just see a bunch of "stuff" you're trying to get through?
Let’s be honest about where we’re at.

Drop a comment below, or DM me CALENDAR if you’re ready to audit your time and shift from busy to purposeful. Let's fix this.

Purpose Is A Distraction | Monday Myth Check 07/13/2026

Let’s be honest. The business world loves to sell us on this idea that if we don't have some grand, world-saving mission, we can’t succeed.

It’s a myth. And it’s keeping you stuck.

If you want to build a business that actually scales, you don't need a fluffy purpose. You need a practical framework.

That’s why we’re shaking things up on Monday MythCheck. For the next 30 weeks, we’re diving deep into a system I’ve built and tested on the ground called The Trail Markers.

These are the 5 markers that actually move the needle:
📍 Purpose (The practical kind, not the cosmic kind)
📍 Strategy
📍 People
📍 Communication
📍 Process

We're going to treat this as a two-track event to take us straight into the new year. Whether you’re starting from scratch or scaling to the next level, this is your map.

Let's stop making business more complicated than it needs to be.
Are you stuck trying to define your "why" instead of building your "how"?

Good Leadership Teams Never Disagree | Monday Myth Check 07/06/2026

If everyone in your last leadership meeting agreed with everything you said...

You should probably be worried.

Seriously.

Too many business owners think a quiet, polite meeting means they've built a stellar team. But harmony does not equal health.

Google actually spent five years studying team performance (Project Aristotle). Want to guess what the number one predictor of a high-performing team was?

It wasn't consensus. It was psychological safety.

That means your people feel safe to speak up, share wild ideas, and openly disagree without fear of being shut down or marginalized.

When you encourage civil disagreement, three things happen:
- You unlock massive innovation.
- You prevent catastrophic failures (because someone actually questions your "genius" ideas).
- You boost retention because your people feel like their voices actually matter.

So, how do you fix it? In your next meeting, intentionally ask the quietest person in the room for their input. Prep them first if they're a deep thinker, and quiet down the ones who always talk.

Have you built a safe environment for disagreement, or is your team just playing nice?

DM me TEAM and let’s talk about how to build high-performance trust in your leadership.

Culture Is Not What You Put On The Wall | Monday Myth Check 06/29/2026

Most businesses have their core values printed on glossy posters in the office. Want to know how many of their employees actually live them?

Almost none.

A Deloitte study found that while 94% of executives believe a distinct workplace culture is key to success, only 19% think their company actually has the right one.

That means an overwhelming number of teams are working in a culture built completely by accident.

Culture isn't a list of single-word values on your website. It’s how you treat your clients, how you choose your vendors, and the exact behaviors you hire and fire to.

If your values aren't in the hearts of your people, they’re just expensive wallpaper.

So, how do you get it off the wall and into the daily work?
You talk about it. In every single meeting. You call out the contradictions and align your daily operations.

Take a look at your team today. Where is your culture getting contradicted? Challenge it. It won't change overnight, but focus will get you there.

What’s one core value your team actually lives out every single day?

MMC 67 06/22/2026

If your team keeps coming to you with elementary problems, I’ve got some tough love for you:

You’re the problem.

I hear it all the time from leaders I train. They say, "Jono, I don’t coach my team because I don't know the right questions to ask. I don't know what to ask next."

So instead of coaching, they just hand over the answers.

When you do that, you aren't leading. You're acting as a glorified search engine. You're training your team NOT to think for themselves.

Here's the truth: You don’t need a list of complicated, perfectly polished questions to be a great coach. You just need to be a thinking partner.

Start with something dead simple: → "What's working?" → "What's not working?" → "What else?"

Ask the question, and then do the hardest part of leadership: Shut up and let them think.

Let's stop solving problems that they can solve themselves.

Want my go-to list of simple questions that will get your team solving their own issues?
