Introducing the latest edition of our “People Behind the Product” series, where we celebrate the incredible individuals who make up our diverse team worldwide. We are thrilled to introduce Dan Hendricks, Lead Acoustical Transducer Designer.
Dan Hendricks plays an important role in the development of Meyer Sound’s loudspeaker technology as Lead Acoustical Transducer Designer. His expertise in transducer design helps shape the performance, precision, and reliability of our loudspeaker systems, contributing to the engineering excellence our customers expect from every Meyer Sound product.
To get to know Dan better, we asked him a few questions about his work at Meyer Sound and life beyond the office.
Question: What is your favorite Meyer Sound memory?
Answer: My favorite moments at work are tied to launching new products. Two experiences stand out in particular. The first was hearing sound come from my very first prototype driver. After all the theory, modeling, and design work, there was a huge sense of relief when I applied a signal, and it actually worked. At that point, I didn't even care how it sounded. I was just excited that it made noise. The second was the TIGRA demo. Seeing my first drivers integrated into a complete loudspeaker system, knowing they would eventually be shipped around the world, was a moment of tremendous pride.
Q: What was your first job?
A: My first job was washing dishes on weekends at a small restaurant near my hometown. I quickly realized it wasn't right for me and lasted about two months.
Q: What does a perfect day off look like for you?
A: A perfect day for me is getting first chair at the mountain and skiing laps on fresh groomers before the crowds show up and then finding some terrain in the afternoon that the masses would avoid. Then a bowl of Pho and a hot shower before an early bedtime to run it back the next day.
Q: What is an achievement you are proud of?
A: Earning my Master's degree in Acoustics from Penn State was a significant accomplishment for me. The opportunity to learn from outstanding professors and collaborate with talented classmates, many of whom have gone on to do remarkable work in audio and other acoustic disciplines, had a lasting impact on me.
Q: Dogs or cats? Do you have any pets?
A: I’m definitely a cat person, although I grew up with both. I don't currently have any pets, but lately I've been thinking about adopting a cat that could join me on outdoor adventures.
Q: What’s one thing people don’t know about you?
A: I’ve been taking piano lessons for about two years. It's something I've always wanted to do, and better late than never.
