Our very own Lauren first time competing at Nationals!

Baby’s first Strongman Corporation Nationals

I came in with a goal to finish top 10 and I did just that and ended in 10th. Swipe for events and details or stay here for my long, sappy post. (Or do both, idc, I’m not your mom)

After my last competition, I was so disappointed in my performance that I spent weeks beating myself up and I couldn’t find anything to be proud of, so my biggest goal leading up to this was to work on my mindset. I’ve always struggled with my confidence and always feel like I’m not enough and tie my accomplishments to my worth and knew something needed to change.

I set eight goals for myself going into this competition, and I’m incredibly proud to say I reached 5/8 of them. But honestly, I’m even more proud of what happened with the three I didn’t reach.

For the first time, I am able to walk away from a competition without feeling like I’ve failed just because things didn’t go exactly how I wanted. I’m proud of my performance. I’m proud of how I handled the things that didn’t go according to plan. And I’m proud that I kept going when things got hard, even when I was frustrated or disappointed.

We’re taught so often that our value is something we have to earn and that being successful, strong, or productive is what makes us worthy. But our worth as people exists completely separately from what we accomplish. And once I finally started allowing myself to believe that, everything else started to fall into place.

I’m incredibly grateful for a coach Ken Mcclelland who believes in me on the days when I struggle to believe in myself, and for a gym community Des Moines Barbell Club that is always in my corner and wants nothing more than to see me do my best.

And I’m so lucky to have amazing friends Tatya Emmick and Jen who traveled all the way to Texas with me, cheered me on, helped me through the hard moments, and reminded me that I have a lot to be proud of.

Biggest thank you to Derek Owens and Shelley Owens and all the volunteers for running such a smooth competition and the great communication leading up to it.

TLDR: this was fun, let’s do it again next weekend

The first annual Waterfront Strength Showcase was a big hit! Not even Mother Nature could stop these guys and gals from shining. 😎

We had almost all first time competitors for a VERY rainy day, but we still made the most of it! Lots of new PR’s, skills learned, weights lifted and friends made.

We would like to thank Captain Roy’s for helping make this all happen, Iowa Spine+Performance for coming out to hold a table and look after the competitors, and all of our competitors for making the day everything we hoped for and more!

Next year will be bigger, better, and hopefully drier! 💪🏻🤣
