Why are a bunch of moms learning Olympic weightlifting? 🏋️‍♀️

Because motherhood is basically one long, poorly programmed workout.

Picking a toddler up off the floor while they go completely limp? Power clean.
Getting a car seat into the car without throwing out your back? Core stability.
Catching a kid who just launched themselves off the couch? Reaction time + power.
Carrying a child, 4 grocery bags, 3 water bottles, and someone’s emotional baggage? Strength endurance. 😂

But there’s a real reason we train Olympic lifts.

Movements like the clean and sn**ch develop power, the ability to produce force quickly. And as we age, maintaining power becomes incredibly important for athleticism, reaction time, balance, and staying capable in everyday life.

Olympic lifting also trains:

🏋️‍♀️ Full-body strength
⚡ Speed and explosive power
🧠 Coordination and motor learning
💪 Core stiffness and force transfer
🦴 Bone-loading strength work
🎯 Balance, timing, and body awareness

And here’s the important part: you don’t have to be an Olympic weightlifter to benefit from Olympic weightlifting.

We break complex lifts into progressions. We use hang positions, pulls, high pulls, power variations, dumbbells, and strength alternatives based on each athlete’s experience and goals.

Some moms are learning to clean.

Some are building strength with front squats.

Both are getting stronger. Both are training with purpose. And both will be slightly more prepared the next time a 35-pound toddler decides to jump at them without warning. 💪

Rib flare and anterior pelvic tilt are behind so much of that stubborn low-back tightness that stretching never seems to fix. It’s not a strength problem — it’s a position problem.

Here’s what’s usually going on: living in extension all day (standing “tall” by arching your back), a deep core and glutes that have gone quiet so your low back and hip flexors take over, breathing that stays up in your chest instead of expanding into your ribs, and the aftermath of pregnancy stretching the abdominal wall. Add it all up and your ribcage flares open, your pelvis tips forward, and your posture pays for it.

The fix is retraining your breath, deep core, and glutes so your ribs stack back over your pelvis where they belong.

Here are 7 drills to get you there:

1. Diaphragmatic breathing
2. Pelvic tilts
3. Dead bugs
4. Marches (3 ways — bodyweight, banded, front-rack KB)
5. Half-kneeling pallof press
6. Kneeling overhead press
7. Bear hover hold

Run through it 3–4x/week. Consistency beats intensity every time.

Today was an absolute blast… and also a healthy dose of humility. 😅☀️🏖️

We “ran” about 4 miles through soft sand in 90° heat with the sun beating down on us for over an hour. Just when you thought you caught your breath, it was time for another strength station or erg.

It was tough, gritty, and 100% the hardest race I’ve ever done.. but also so much fun!

One unexpected highlight? I think I’ve found a new favorite… the strength erg! 💪

Days like today remind me why I love fitness. Not because it’s easy, but because it challenges you, pushes you outside your comfort zone, and reminds you there’s always another level to grow into.

Already looking forward to the next challenge!

Real talk: ever peed a little on a box jump? Or looked down mid sit-up and watched your belly cone up like a little tent? Yeah. Let’s talk about it.

Picture your core as a soda can. Diaphragm on top, pelvic floor on the bottom, deep core wrapping the sides and back. Every squat, deadlift, and hard mile shakes that can up and builds pressure inside. When all four walls hold? Shared evenly, strong as heck. When one wall taps out? All that pressure dumps onto your weakest spot, hello leaking, coning, cranky lower back.

So it’s almost never one weak muscle. It’s a pressure leak. That’s why we train the whole can to work together instead of chasing abs all day.
