The YMCA of Greater Houston is proud to participate in the World's Largest Swimming Lesson on June 25! This worldwide event raises awareness about drowning prevention and the life-saving power of water safety education.

With 56% of Americans lacking basic swim skills, events like this matter more than ever. Join us from 12:30–1 pm for a certified instructor-led lesson open to all skill levels, ages 3–12.

Whether you've got a backyard pool or a community pool at your apartment — a little preparation goes a long way in keeping your family safe and your summer full of good memories.

A few things to keep in mind:
🔒 Lock all gates and barriers when the pool isn't in use
📋 Set clear pool rules before anyone gets in the water and make sure every swimmer knows them
💧 Always have a Water Watcher — a designated adult whose only job is watching the kids
👀 Keep distractions away from the water — staying alert can save a life
👫 Use the buddy system — no child swims alone, ever
🚨 Keep rescue equipment within reach at all times — and have an emergency plan ready

Checking your phone may feel like a quick task, but even a brief distraction near the water can have serious consequences. A Water Watcher is a designated adult whose sole job is to maintain visual contact with every child in or near the water — no phones, no distractions, eyes up at all times.
