Today we honor freedom.
We honor resilience.
We honor the sacrifices, strength, and courage of those who came before us.
May we continue moving forward with faith, purpose, unity, and hope.

Ward 3 Recreation is aware of an incident that occurred in the parking lot of the Ward 3 Power Center on Thursday, June 5th. Earlier that afternoon, an altercation took place between two groups at a separate location in Lake Charles. When law enforcement was contacted regarding that situation, the individuals involved left that location, entered their vehicles, and drove to the Power Center parking lot, where the dispute continued.
It is important to clarify that this incident did not involve any Ward 3 Recreation patrons, programs, or activities, and did not occur inside any Ward 3 facility. The safety of our community members is our highest priority, and at no point were our guests or staff part of the altercation.
Ward 3 Recreation will continue to cooperate fully with local law enforcement and remains committed to providing safe, welcoming, and family‑focused environments across all of our facilities.

Today we celebrate someone who embodies the spirit of service that Dr. King championed. Our Executive Director, Kip Texada, has always led with humility, compassion, and unwavering dedication — so much so that he quietly kept from us the news that he was being honored with the Unsung Hero Award on MLK Day.
This dream of Martin Luther King Jr. isn’t a finished product to be admired; it’s a blueprint to be built every day, in every situation — at home, at work, in the store and on the street. Dr. James Dixon — pastor of The Community of Faith Church in Houston and speaker of Friday morning’s MLK Breakfast at L’Auberge Casino Resort — said the dream means continually choosing to act with love, to practice nonviolence in words, and to keep the faith that a better world is possible, one step at a time.
“He truly believed in equality, equity, freedom, justice. He believed in the principle of love your neighbor as yourself. Those were his values. It wasn’t a practice, it was a foundational principle for him. He saw something, he believed in something, he hoped for something.” King believed that people with similar values could come together and create a beloved community.
Mr. Kip Texada being recognized couldn’t be more fitting. Someone’s impact is often felt long before it’s seen, and their leadership strengthens our community in ways that rarely seek the spotlight. Even when recognized, Mr. Texada chose silence — not out of secrecy, but out of modesty.
On behalf of all of us at Ward 3 Recreation, Congratulations, Mr. Texada!
