On this date: In 1841, the U.S. Supreme Court, in the United States v. The Amistad, ruled 7-1 in favor of a group of illegally enslaved Africans who were captured off the U.S. coast after seizing control of a Spanish schooner, La Amistad; the justices ruled that the Africans should be set free.

World Refugee Day is an international day designated by the United Nations to honour refugees around the globe. It falls each year on June 20 and celebrates the strength and courage of people who have been forced to flee their home country to escape conflict or persecution. World Refugee Day is an occasion to build empathy and understanding for their plight and to recognize their resilience in rebuilding their lives.

I’m back! I took some time away from social after realizing I needed to take care of myself mentally and emotionally.

We all have a story and it can be hard to face. There have been some tough decisions that I had to make these past couple of weeks. Ones that I know ring true towards my values, and believe me, I had to reevaluate what those values were.

Regardless, here are my takeaways:
• We will go through life having to take a good look at what matters and that may result in some type of pivot

• There will be moments in life where you have to take a break and choose self care first. This should always be your priority.

• There may come a time where you have to say enough is enough and change some relationships that you have been keeping close to you. If they don’t serve you or lift you up, it may be time to let go

• You may be brought into situations where you are asked to mask or hide your whole self. Always choose to bring YOU to everyone situation. If you can’t do that, it’s not worth it.

We will have to make decisions to help us grow. It may be uncomfortable, unconventional, or even down right scary as hell. In the end though, you’ll notice your growth and what you’ve overcome. This will bring you to a moment that I’m experiencing now, which is hell yes, finally and welcome home!
