ISR New Bern

Five years ago I began this incredible journey! 🥳

There are over 200 children in our area who are better equipped for a water emergency 🤩

Most have come back several times over the years to enhance and strengthen their skills as they have gotten older 💪🏼

A handful of known real life situations where a child has successfully used their self-rescue skills in an emergency 🥹

Over 10, that I know of, have joined local swim teams 🏊🏻‍♀️

6 different pool locations 😍

Countless hours of me being there for my children after school and during school breaks 🩵💜

So many smiles, laughs and lifelong friendships made poolside 🥲

Here’s to the next 5 years of making water safer, one child and one lesson at a time 😅

After two full ISR sessions, Maddie knew how to find her float. I truly thought we were just having harmless summer fun in a puddle jumper with her big sister. Then she went back to ISR… and everything changed. Instead of building on the skills she had already worked so hard to learn, we spent the next six weeks relearning them. The part I’ll never forget wasn’t being judged. It was what our instructor said: “Once we know better, we do better.” That stuck with me. Motherhood is full of moments like this. We make the best decisions we can with the information we have. Then we learn, we adjust, and we keep showing up for our kids. I’m sharing this because I wish someone had shown me what I just showed you. If it helps even one family, it’s worth it. So proud of my kiddos who wrapped up their 3rd and 1st seasons of summer swim team 🥰 and to think, it all started with ISR lessons at 3 years old and 9 months old, respectively 😅

She’s been using her skills all summer for fun but on that day, she used them to survive 🥹

If your little one didn’t love lessons the first time around, please don’t let that discourage you from continuing with their water safety journey 🩵 It took several refresher sessions for this sweet girl to find the fun in lessons. There were many tears throughout her years of lessons. Moments of hesitation. Days were her confidence didn’t match her high skill level. Her parents stuck with it and now she is a mermaid that they can’t keep out of the water 🧜🏼‍♀️ She’s learning an intro to strokes, jumping off the diving board and diving to the bottom of the deep end. We have been having fun together this summer! Stick with it 🥹 I promise you it’s worth it 🫶🏼
