Please welcome Maya Sistruck to the Front Desk Team!

Maya Sistruck is an actor, singer, and writer from North Carolina and a recent graduate of the University of Michigan with a degree in Musical Theatre and Creative Writing minor. When she is not pursuing her passion onstage and screen, she is a plant-mom and published author of fiction, often diving into a new podcast or book in her free-time. Maya is very excited to be joining the front desk team at Pilates Shop Yoga Garage and working alongside such a wonderful variation of skilled instructors!

**New Front Desk Staff Alert**

We are so excited to welcome Ciera Miller .mackenzie to the Front Desk Pilates Staff here at PSYG.

Ciera Miller is a California native and graduate of William Jessup University with a degree in Theatre with a specialization in Tech and Design. She is a freelance director, producer and artistic director of Curious Theatre Works. She is an avid hiker and when she's not in rehearsals she loves spending time in nature and values creating time to move amidst busy schedules and routines.

***New Teacher Alert***

We are so excited to welcome Lauren Malone to the PSYG Pilates teaching staff.

Lauren Malone grew up dancing, and found a great fascination for the body’s abilities. In 2018, Lauren received her certification in Pilates with a specialization on dancer supplementation through BASI Pilates. She also received her Bachelor’s in Fine Arts for Dance and Dance Science in Long Beach, CA, in 2020. She later became certified in Exercise Physiology through the American College of Sports Medicine and pursued personal training with an inclusion of Pilates and dance movement styles. The specialties she’s acquired over the years include: range of motion, full body muscle integration, and proprioception and balance.

Lauren will be teaching on Tuesdays, Saturdays and Sundays!

For the month of April, all of Lauren’s sessions will be at the promo rate!

Front Desk Spotlight: Julianna Saccone

Julianna Saccone is a free-lance artist and animator from Scituate, Massachusetts. Currently pursuing a BFA in Animation at the School of Visual Arts, Julianna has a distinct passion for the arts that has persisted over 10 years, a passion she continues to study and hone in New York City. Coming from a musical family, she actively plays the guitar and piano in her free time. Julianna Saccone has just started working for Pilates Shop/Yoga Garage as a front desk receptionist in 2021, and is delighted to be working alongside several skillful and experienced Pilates and Yoga instructors at PSYG!

Front desk Spotlight: Michael Greenberg

Michael Greenberg is a dancer and choreographer from New York City. He began his training at the Ailey School in 2004 and went on to study dance at Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School.
Michael received a BFA in Dance in 2017 from NYU Tisch. Most recently he was dancing in the First National tour of Fiddler on the Roof with choreography by Hofesh Shechter. Michael founded his own collective N E 1 4 Dance in 2018 and has a podcast: “Mike on the Mic”. He started working front desk for PSYG in 2019!

Staff Spotlight: Abby Ziaja

Abby Ziaja has taught and practiced yoga, movement, and meditation for many years. During that time, she has completed numerous trainings with some of the best teachers in the field, including an ongoing mentorship with Max Roel , owner of PSYG. Her current interests and areas of continued study in the field, include biomechanics, anatomy, pain science, the nervous system, somatics, and meditation. With a background in dance and a "mover" from an early age, Abby strives to teach students to trust intuitive movement, hone their ability to observe and notice their own bodies, and develop healthy, mindful patterns of movement. When not teaching, Abby spends her time playing music. She's a trained singer and violinist and loves figuring out tunes on the guitar and piano. Abby had been teach Yoga at PSYG since 2018.

Staff Spotlight: Yuko Kodama

Yuko Kodama has been teaching yoga since 2001. She has studied Ashtanga yoga since 1996. She is a graduate of Parsons School of Design in Fine Art with a BFA in Sculpture(1996) and an MFA in Computer Animation(1999). She is also certified in Gyrotonic Level 2 and Gyrokinesis teaching this method since 2017.
She began her study of Pilates to heal from surgery from having had a rare cancer. She was certified through Ellie Herman Pilates in 2017 and has also completed a year long course with Irene Dowd in 2018 on anatomy. She is also a long time student of Maureen Fleming a renowned dance artist. Yuko performed in her company in 1996-98, and is also certified in her method of Fleming Elastxx. Yuko also practices Mindfulness Meditation, Feldenkrais and studies Vedic Astrology and Ayurveda. She believes that learning is a life long journey and studies new things to keep herself current with the latest research regarding breath and movement. Her practice of yoga, art and meditation creates a class with a focus on breath, awareness, and creativity. Her classes spring from a wealth of knowledge and life experience. She is a mother of two and a partner to a musician in Brooklyn. Yuko began teaching at PSYG in 2018!

Staff Spotlight: Katya Chernikhova

Katya Chernikhova has been teaching Pilates for over 8 years. She earned her certification through Power Pilates NY in both mat and apparatus. Katya received her BFA in dance from Tulane University and has been dancing professionally with many renowned choreographers and dance companies in New York. Katya incorporates her unique knowledge of movement into her teaching method. Her clients have ranged from professional athletes to post surgery rehabilitation, post and pre-natal, and sports specific needs. She believes that regardless of your level, injury or fitness goals anyone can do Pilates. It will give you a challenging workout and change your body. Katya has been happily teaching at PSYG since 2014.

Staff Spotlight: Margot Gelber

Margot Gelber, native of Houston, TX, is a graduate of the High School for Performing and Visual Arts. She has been teaching pilates for seven years. She began her training as a competitive gymnast which led her to dance and ultimately, to her pilates training. Margot’s love for pilates was discovered and refined at the Boston Conservatory where she completed her BFA in dance performance in 2013. In addition to her passion for pilates Margot is a professional dancer and choreographer. She was a member of Ate9 Dance Company in Los Angeles, California. Margot is also certified in the Gyrotonic® and Gyrokinesis® methods. Her experience as a dancer, dance maker, and gymnast provide a diverse movement background creating a truly distinctive and educational experience for clients. Margot has happily been a part of the PSYG community since 2014.

Staff Spotlight: Gabe Villanueva

Gabe Villanueva (He/Him) discovered Pilates after sustaining a hamstring injury in 2006 and immediately found therapy in the Pilates technique in just a few weeks of private sessions. He then completed a comprehensive 500-hour Pilates Certification from Kore Pilates, La Jolla, CA., and has since enjoyed inspiring and rehabilitating people back to physical wellness. He believes in the ability of Pilates to make you better at everything you do on/off the Pilates mat. Gabe is beyond thrilled to be teaching at PSYG alongside some of the finest Pilates instructors in New York City.

Staff Spotlight: Cathy Konciak

Cathy Konciak is a certified yoga and pilates teacher with more than 30 years of experience teaching movement based classes. Cathy first became interested in fitness after recovering from knee surgery. 
It was here in the gym that she found her passion and soon the transition was made from class participant to teaching group fitness classes such as step and kickboxing. Curiosity led to trying a pilates class and it made an instant connection. Cathy decided Pilates would become her primary focus as she saw her primary job in the photographic industry would become irrelevant soon. 
Cathy enrolled in a Pilates certification program with Peter Roel and Phoebe Higgins as her primary teachers. She became certified in 1999 and maintains certification through continuing education  workshops. Cathy is thankful for the diversity of approach and wealth of information her many teachers have imparted and integrates their knowledge into her teaching. 
Cathy lives in New Jersey with her Labrador retriever, Casey.

Maxine Roël

Max began her extensive background in movement as a dancer in NYC. She simultaneously studied Gyrotonics, taught "Stretch and Tone" at Peridance and Crosby Street Studios and frequented physical therapy due to dance injuries. Dance injuries prevailed sending Maxine to NYU, where she received her BA in Creative Writing. In 1995 she began practicing yoga and was instantly fascinated with integrating breath with mindfulness and movement. Maxine was certified in 1997 at Yoga Zone with Alan Finger, Lisa and Charles Matkin and Richard Vilella. While growing her private practice, she continued to study with renowned teachers in the field. In 2001 Maxine and her husband, Peter opened PILATES SHOP / YOGA GARAGE INC.. Starting with the principles of a Hatha Yoga practice, Maxine created her own method; Hatha yoga fused with Pilates and therapeutic techniiques to create stability and freedom of movement.

Peter Roël

Peter Roël, B.A., PMA®-CPT, director of Pilates Shop Teacher Training, co-founded and co-owns Pilates Shop/Yoga Garage in New York City. Peter was educated at the Dance Conservatory at Arnhem in The Netherlands, earning a B.A. in Dance Education, which entailed Psychology, Pedagogy, and Anatomy.
He moved to New York City in 1983 and danced as a principal dancer with Elisa Monte and the Martha Graham Dance Companies, among others.
He started his Pilates education in 1984 with Kathy Grant, with whom he studied and worked with for 15 years.
In 1992, he was certified to teach Pilates by Romana Kryzanowska and in 1995 he studied and was certified to teach Gyrotonics by Julio Horvath. From 1984 through 1999 Peter toured extensively in the USA, Europe and Asia while teaching dance, Pilates and performing as a principle dancer with o.a. Elisa Monte and the Martha Graham Dance Companies. In doing so, Peter introduced Pilates to The Netherlands in 1986. Peter also, worked with and performed works by Ulysses Dove, Maurice Bejart, Lucinda Childs, Susan Stroman, Pieter de Ruiter, Robert Wilson, and Ronald K. Brown. From 1998-2001, Peter was co-director, teacher trainer and studio manager at Power Pilates in NYC. Peter studies with Irene Dowd and Deborah Lessen in NYC, where he teaches clients and gives “continued education” workshops in the United States and Europe.
Peter has appeared in Pilates Style magazine, and has online presence at PilatesAnytime.com and Pilatesology.com. He has also taught mat classes and workshops domestically and internationally at the Pilates Method Alliance, The Human Movement Conferences in Sante Fe, Pilates Mentors of New York, and the Asia Pilates Summit in Singapore, among others.
Because of a lifetime as a competitive track and field athlete, gymnast and dancer, Peter gives an integrative and individual approach to his Pilates teaching.
