🏊 I SWIM SO I CAN… COMPETE! 🏁

For some children, learning to swim is just the beginning.

At Aquatots, we provide competitive swimming pathways that allow children to build on the skills they’ve developed through lessons and squads, introducing them to racing, improving their technique, building fitness and experiencing the excitement of competition.

As swimmers progress, we can help connect them with local swimming clubs, giving those who love to race a pathway to take their swimming even further.
Whether they’re racing for fun, chasing a personal best or dreaming of bigger things - every competitive swimmer starts by learning to swim.

💗 Learn. Progress. Race. Compete.

🩷🦸‍♀️ SKYE’S WATER WARRIOR REMINDER — ACTIVE SUPERVISION 🦸‍♀️🩷

Skye has one very important message for families this Water Warrior Safer Swimming Week…

👀 When children are in or around water, active adult supervision is essential.
Active supervision means more than simply being nearby. It means being close, watching, listening and ready to respond — without distractions.

📱 Put the phone away.
💬 Save the long conversations for later.
👀 Keep your eyes on the water.
🤝 For younger or less confident swimmers, stay within arm’s reach.

It only takes a moment for something to go wrong around water, which is why supervision needs to be active and constant.

This week, Skye is helping our swimmers practise what to do if someone needs help, including signalling for assistance and safe reach and tow rescues for our more advanced swimmers.

🩷 Be like Skye — supervise, stay alert and stay close.
Because safer swimming starts before anyone even gets in the water. 💦

💦🦸 WATER WARRIOR WEEK STARTS TODAY! 🦸💦

It’s Week 10 at Aquatots Forde, Gold Creek & Black Mountain, which means one of our favourite and most important weeks of the term is here - Water Warrior Safer Swimming Week! 🌊

This week, lessons look a little different as our swimmers put their water safety skills into action in more realistic situations. Children will be swimming without goggles and wearing clothes over their swimmers, while learning and practising skills that could make a real difference in an emergency.

Our Water Warriors will be helping children learn about active adult supervision, effective barriers, emergency planning, year-round practice and essential water safety skills - because being a strong swimmer is only one part of being safer around water.

👕 Remember: Please send your child in old clothes over their swimmers that you’re happy for them to get wet in. No goggles this week!
With warmer weather just around the corner, there couldn’t be a better time to practise these skills.

💗💜💚💙❤️ Let’s build safer, smarter and more confident Water Warriors!

🧠💦 Thinking about taking a break from swimming?

For young children, learning to swim isn’t just about remembering what to do. Their brain and body are building the neural connections needed to coordinate complex movements through repetition and practice.

During childhood, the brain is constantly strengthening connections that are used regularly and refining those that aren’t. This process of brain development and neural pruning is particularly active during the early years.

🏊 Swimming is a complex skill.
Your child is learning to coordinate their arms, legs, breathing, balance and body position - while moving through an environment humans aren’t naturally designed to breathe in.
That takes time, strength, coordination and lots of repetition.
When regular practice stops, particularly for younger swimmers, those newly developing skills may become less automatic. A longer break can mean returning to swimming with reduced confidence, strength, coordination or skill - and instructors may need to spend valuable lesson time rebuilding what was previously established.

💡 Consistency matters.

Just like learning to walk, ride a bike, read or play an instrument, repetition helps turn a new skill into a strong and reliable one.

Keep the pathways active. Keep the skills developing. Keep swimming. 💦🧠
Because when it comes to learning a life-saving skill, consistency is incredibly valuable.

A good read, this is when you can see swim lesson push back, not due to anything other than what is going on inside.
It’s important we understand the development stages so we can better guide our young humans to success 🫶

Something starts to shift long before puberty arrives.

During the adrenarche years, usually around ages 6–9, children can experience changes in hormones, emotions, stress responses and the way their developing brain manages all of it.

You might suddenly notice bigger feelings, greater sensitivity, mood swings, friendship worries, self-consciousness or a child who seems to need far more reassurance than they used to.

They’re not suddenly becoming “difficult”. Their internal world is changing — and their ability to understand and regulate those changes is still developing.

Understanding what is happening can completely change how we respond.
