There is something special that happens here- and it’s not the workouts (but they are pretty great 😉)
It’s the moments before.
It’s the support during.
It’s the after class effects that lasts the longest.
It’s the after class chit-chat, that leads to a “ see you next class, right?”.
Then it’s an exchange of numbers.
Next it’s a plan to meet up for a walk.
The texts start to flow, and all of a sudden you’re meeting up for a coffee, commiserating on life with a new friend that you met at a Fitmama fitness class.
You came for the workout, but you left with a connection that is real and memories that will last a lifetime.

This weekend I am getting ready to lace up with my team to raise essential funds for Women’s Mental Health. This is my fourth year participating and we have a team of runners and walkers who have also laced up to support!
I’m sure many of you already know why this event is so important to me. Through my work supporting women during one of the most vulnerable seasons of their lives, I often become part of their first line of support. I’ve seen firsthand the impact that poor mental health can have when it goes unrecognized or untreated, and I’ve also witnessed the incredible transformation that happens when people receive the care and support they need.
I would love to have your support as I run 5k (every step in support of Ontario Shores).
This year I am inviting friends and family to consider a $25 donation- that’s $5 for every KM I crush.

Stroller Strong is our signature full-body workout designed for mamas. No need to worry about child care, your little one is along for the ride! Expect strength, cardio, core and pelvic floor rehab plus a whole lot of mama connection.

Fitmama Strong Durham has been specializing in prenatal/postnatal and women’s only fitness since 2010. Classes are offered in person and online.

Q: How do your classes help me rebuild strength after baby?
A: We focus on building back strength with body weight, lower load and moderate volume. As you get stronger and build your endurance we progress you by increasing volume versus load (heavier).
Volume doesn’t always mean reps, it also means frequency.
We want to gradually progress people to working out 3-4 times a week building a habit of consistency. The goal for postpartum people is to accumulate 120min of moderate-vigorous exercise each week. (It’s one of the reasons why we include access to our LIVE online and On Demand Content Library with our in-person series!)
This should happen before people start adding more load (resistance) and should be maintained for a period of time to build foundational strength and to reduce injury.
Postpartum is not the time to hop back into high intensity or hard hitting workouts. This approach is a great way to get back to those types of workouts (if that’s what you like) safely and effectively!
