Work is set to start Thursday on improvements to tennis and pickleball courts in two West Kelowna neighbourhoods.

The City of West Kelowna will be serving up $995,000 in investments in the recreation facilities at Anders Park and in Shannon Lake. The bulk of the funding, $845,000, will be spent at Anders Park, with the remaining $150,000 slated for the Shannon Lake courts.

All eight courts at Anders Park will be upgraded. In Shannon Lake, the original two tennis courts will be converted into one tennis court and three pickleball courts.

As part of the project, there will be new fencing, nets, sport surfaces, game lines, drainage improvements, accessibility improvements and new asphalt work.

Emil Anderson Construction Inc. is the primary contractor for the asphalt and fencing work, while Orca Asphalt Maintenance Inc. will be undertaking the acrylic resurfacing.

The work is expected to be completed by mid-November. Residents will be able to access the courts again in the spring.
