Hoy es el Día de las Madres en la República Dominicana.
Today is Mother’s Day in the Dominican Republic.
How to offer gratitude if not with attention?
Mary Oliver says that the highest form of devotion is attention.
I sit today very attentive and offer gratitude.
I also will go and have a phone call with Mami.
We can easily be chatting for an hour before we notice the time has passed.
It’s been 23 years since we have lived on different continents from each other.
Our conversations have evolved from phone cards, locutorios, and discounted long-distance calls, to now speaking through apps with unlimited time in the calls.
About Mami, I can say many things.
Thank you for my life,
and for letting me be free and adventurous enough
to find myself and come back to you with a heart full of love.
Gracias Mami.
