Riviera Boxcup 2026 🥇🥇🥇🥈🥈🥉
DAY ONE
First up was Ryan Matthews who started slowly but settled in well once he found his rhythm, boxing smart and taking a unanimous decision win.
Next was Harvey James returning after a brief hiatus modelling at the Geezers boxing stand. He faced a top opponent and boxed well throughout, just missing out on a narrow split decision. However, strong performance earned him another chance to box again the next day.
To finish Day One Will Benke faced a quality operator and two time Riviera Boxcup champion. Will delivered one of his best performances of the season and secured a dominant unanimous decision win. His opponent boxed again the next day and went on to win gold.
Max and Daisy received straight finals.
DAY TWO
Daisy Allinson opened the day against an England representative and showed clear development as she does with every bout. She fell just short on a 3 to 2 split decision 🥈
Will Benke followed facing a relentless opponent who refused to step back. Will kept something on him at all times using smart footwork and turns to stay off the ropes and came away with a unanimous decision win 🥇
Ryan Matthews boxed a familiar pressure fighter. Back to his usual self Ryan boxed elusively off the back foot and won a split decision to claim 🥇
Max Barnes faced a top opponent from Kent Gloves who had beaten a highly rated boxer the day before. In only his second open class bout this season Max boxed well and showed he can mix it with the best despite a narrow split decision loss. All learning and with a few tweaks Max will be back strong next season 🥈
Finally Harvey James closed the weekend with a dominant performance against a hometown opponent winning by RSC2 after causing a cut with a clean punch. Harvey showed a mature mindset and real determination bouncing back from his loss the day before and setting a great example for how the club expects its boxers to carry themselves 🥇
Overall this weekend showed the hard work all coaches and boxers have put in competing at the top level on the domestic circuit.

Haringey Boxcup 2026
It was Team Romans' first outing to Europe's largest Box Cup, which provided valuable experience for the team, and we hope to attend again next year after a very positive experience.
DAY ONE
Will Benke was up first, coming away with a UD win against a quality hard-hitting opponent coming off winning both the Manchester Box Cup and Capital Box Cup.
Ryan Matthews was next on, beating an aggressive southpaw by UD behind an educated jab and slick movement.
Daisy Allinson won by a 3:2 split decision after a good first round and close second and third against the Dutch national champion, getting valuable international experience and rising to the occasion.
Max Barnes took on a strong opponent from Belvedere and, after a slow start, figured out his opponent and boxed excellently, putting on his best performance of the season.
DAY TWO
Daisy was up first, facing an opponent with over 100 bouts from Norway. It was a close contest, ending with Daisy losing out on a 4-1 split decision.
Ryan Matthews lost to a familiar opponent and top lad after having a good first round but getting caught in the second and being unable to fully recover. Despite the result, Ryan showed massive improvements from the last time he faced this opponent in the NABGCs in November.
Max Barnes had to withdraw due to a shoulder injury. This is unfortunate, as Max has had a few injuries hold him back this season, but this is only a small setback and his long-term recovery is more important than any bout.
Will Benke was last up, boxing this year's London Intermediate and Elite Champion. After a good first round and start to the second, Will let his opponent back into the bout in the second half of the contest, resulting in a 4-1 split decision loss in what was a close bout.
Overall, the weekend was a great experience for all our boxers, who have improved massively this season since moving to open-class competitions. We next have six boxers attending the Riviera Box Cup on the 8th and 9th of August.
The club is also hosting the Western County Development Championship Finals and our club show on the 26th of September at the University of Bath Sports Training Village.

Max comes as the new U65kg Western Counties Development Challenge Belt holder, returning to the ring after a long lay-off against a familiar opponent. Now, a little rest before the Haringey Box Cup this weekend for Max.
Harvey James stepped up a weight class, losing out on a split decision for the Western Counties U85kg Elite Challenge Belt.
Both lads represented themselves and the club well, showing the improvements they have made this season.
