Shane Lowry Wins the 2026 Amgen Irish Open: A Storybook Victory at Doonbeg
Shane Lowry produced a relentless, tour-de-force display of links golf at Trump International Golf Links in Doonbeg to claim his second Irish Open title.
Seventeen years after his iconic 2009 victory as an amateur at County Louth (Baltray), Lowry completed a emotional full-circle triumph on home soil. The 2019 Open Champion completely dismantled a world-class field, taking control of the tournament on Friday and powering away to secure a commanding victory.
The Highlights from Doonbeg
A Historic 62 on Friday: Having navigated a brutal, wind-swept opening round with a steady 67, Lowry tore Doonbeg apart in Round 2. He poured in nine birdies to post an 8-under 62—a course record that put him three shots clear and blew the tournament wide open.
Cruising Through the Weekend: When challengers made brief charges during Moving Day, Lowry responded with clinical precision. He one-putted every single green on the back nine on Saturday for a 65 to take a four-shot margin into the final round, where he stretched his lead into double digits over the back nine on Sunday.
A 17-Year Wait Ended: Lowry first captivated the Irish public in 2009 when, as a 22-year-old amateur, he famously won the Irish Open in a playoff at Baltray. Re-entering the winner’s circle at his national open 17 years later marks one of the most popular home victories in recent European tour history.
