Bridgend County's next generation of athletes find inspiration in local sporting elite.

A massive thank you to our inspiring Halo Sport Foundation Ambassadors, some of whom joined us at the Halo Sport Foundation celebration event in Bridgend County recently. Hearing their personal journeys to success and the invaluable advice they shared with the 110 athletes being supported by the Foundation was a true highlight of the night.

The Halo Sport Foundation - Athlete Support Programme, reflects a shared commitment from Halo Leisure and Bridgend County Borough Council to support local athletes, remove barriers to participation and create opportunities for people of all ages and abilities to achieve their sporting ambitions.

The Halo Sport Foundation is championed by an inspiring team of Sports Ambassadors, all with strong connections to Bridgend County Borough:

β€’ Helen Jenkins MBE – Olympian and two-time World Champion Triathlete
β€’ Neil Robinson MBE – Paralympic Champion and GB Table Tennis Coach
β€’ Rebecca (Bex) Rowe – Multi-Sport International Athlete and Polar Explorer
β€’ Ellie McCloy – World Champion Surf Life Saver
β€’ Rebecca Sutton – GB and Wales International Swimmer
β€’ Celyn Emanuel – Welsh International Netball Player

Recognising that financial pressures can often prevent talented athletes from progressing, the Foundation provides vital support through athlete grants and free access to Halo training facilities,
helping individuals continue their sporting journey while remaining connected to their local communities.

Thank you for being such powerful role models and for highlighting the vital role that local clubs, coaches, families, and facilities play in supporting our athletes to achieve their dreams.

Together, we are backing our local talent and building a brighter sporting future for Bridgend County Borough.

The future of local sport took centre stage recently as Bridgend County Borough's finest athletes gathered for the launch of the β€˜Halo Sport Foundation Awards’ delivered by Bridgend County Borough Council in partnership with Halo Leisure.

The event celebrated 110 talented athletes from across the county borough, representing more than 30 different sporting disciplines, including surfing, athletics, surf lifesaving, para-table tennis, gymnastics, boxing, BMX and ice hockey. Selected for their commitment, achievements and competitive success, the recipients represent the next generation of local sporting talent.

This year's Foundation is championed by an inspiring team of Sports Ambassadors, all with strong connections to Bridgend County Borough:

β€’ Helen Jenkins MBE – Olympian and two-time World Champion Triathlete
β€’ Neil Robinson MBE – Paralympic Champion and GB Table Tennis Coach
β€’ Rebecca Rowe – Multi-Sport International Athlete and Polar Explorer
β€’ Ellie McCloy – World Champion Surf Life Saver
β€’ Rebecca Sutton – GB and Wales International Swimmer
β€’ Celyn Emanuel – Welsh International Netball Player

The Halo Sport Foundation is also part of a wider ambition to strengthen grassroots sport across Bridgend County Borough.

Creating a community where people feel valued, connected, and supported is at the heart of our mission at Halo Leisure.

This Carers Week, meet Lisa, our coordinator for the Carers Respite Programme in Bridgend and Merthyr Tydfil. This 6-week programme is a vital lifeline, offering respite and connection for unpaid carers and their loved ones living with dementia. 🌈

A Message from Lisa πŸ’¬
"The sessions give carers a chance to step away briefly from their responsibilities, focus on their own wellbeing, and build relationships with others who truly understand. It helps reduce feelings of isolation and reassures them that they are not alone." πŸ’›

What the Programme Offers:
🌿 Time for Respite: Light exercise, gentle movement, and time to recharge.

🀝 Peer Support: A safe space to share experiences and coping strategies with fellow carers.

πŸ’‘ Practical Advice: Weekly guest slots from local organisations to connect carers with vital services and home support they might not know exist.
