Two wheels or three? Which cargo bike is right for you?
Two-wheel cargo bikes can feel more like a traditional bike, while three-wheel cargo bikes offer extra stability when stationary. Both handle differently, and each comes with its own pleasures and practical considerations.
Whichever you choose, take your time, secure your load and give yourself space to get used to the bike’s size and handling.
There’s no single right answer, so don’t rush into buying. Come and experience both, ask plenty of questions and let us help you find the cargo bike that feels right for you.
Outspoken Cycles
We also offer Dr Bike, pool bikes and fun cycling events for businesses.
Helping families and communities enjoy cycling, with cargo bikes, e-bikes, children’s bikes, accessories, repairs and maintenance courses in Cambridge and Norwich.
Cargo bikes are brilliant for everyday journeys, but they take a little time to get used to.
Always secure your load before setting off, remember that your bike is longer than a standard bike and stop a little earlier at junctions. Leave enough space when pulling up beside crossing buttons so you can reach them easily too.
Most importantly, take your time and don’t rush into buying. We’ll help you explore the pleasures, understand the potential pitfalls and find the cargo bike that feels right for you.
Thinking about riding a trike? Give yourself time to get used to it.
Our top tip is to imagine your feet are glued to the pedals. Keep them planted, take things slowly and allow yourself time to understand how the trike moves and handles.
Riding a trike can feel different at first, so try one for yourself, practise somewhere quiet and build your confidence at your own pace.
You’re welcome to try a trike at one of our bike shops in Cambridge and Norwich.
We get lots of questions from customers who are curious about cargo bikes, so we’re sharing some simple tips to help you feel more confident before buying one.
In this video, we’re looking at the practical basics of mastering a two-wheel cargo bike, including keeping it upright, parking safely and pulling it onto the stand.
They can feel a little different at first, but with the right technique and a bit of practice, you’ll soon get the hang of it.
